    Easter Bunny Beats The Rap

LA MESA — When California Highway Patrol officers saw the Easter Bunny riding down the freeway without a helmet Saturday morning, they got right on his tail.

The man inside the white rabbit suit was westbound on Interstate 8 on a bright red motorcycle with a sidecar when he got pulled over near Jackson Drive, CHP Officer Brian Pennings said.

Officer Adam Griffiths took down the motorcyclist’s information, but decided not to give him a ticket.

“He was on his way to a charity event,” Pennings said. “He ended up with a verbal warning and an explanation of the safety factors for riding without a helmet.”

I don't know much about Hong Kong, but I do know this: we must never allow these people to have nuclear weapons...

    W. Va. Man Electrocuted After Shooting Down Power Line To Steal Copper

THURMOND, W.Va. (AP) – Police in Fayette County say a man was electrocuted when he picked up a live power line that he had shot down in order to steal copper from it.

Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler says the man’s body was found Wednesday in Thurmond.

Kessler says the man and an accomplice planned to strip the line of its copper wiring to later sell as scrap metal.

Kessler says the man was killed instantly when he picked up the power line. His name wasn’t released pending notification of relatives.

Media outlets report the accomplice was charged with an attempt to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit a felony and disruption of a public utility

I would like to know if this transmission line even had a significant amount of copper to take in the first place. A majority of medium to high voltage lines either use ACSR (Aluminum conductor Steel reinforced) with no recoverable copper, or "pure" aluminum conductors (which also is the element most commonly used in the busbars, heat sinks, foil windings, etc). In fact, copper cable is generally only used in short overhead runs or facility/home/equipment grounding. The majority of copper wiring is in distribution systems, not overhead transmission. In the short overhead runs that DO use copper, are generally CCA (Copper clad Aluminum) cable, of which copper makes up only about 10-20% of the weight of the entire cable.

He would have had a greater chance of success with lower risk and greater reward if he had broken into an unfinished house and pulled the wires from there instead.

Gentleman, this is a perfect example of ignorance being a hazard to life and limb, not just liberty.
