I don't think we see this anywhere in America like we do with college football. The old divide of North vs South is very much alive and well in college football. For some reason, we don't really see that carried out in the other sports. The SEC has fed off a marketing campaign driven to nourish this, but it really only sticks in football. Sure, the SEC chant exists in all sports venues, but the hyperbolic claims of superiority and inferiority really only seem to resonate in college football.

Not that many of you care about 'the other football' but I'm a passionate, life-long follower of both the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga. There is a somewhat similar divide in English football between the perceived 'posh' Southern, London based clubs and the rough, Irish/Scot immigrant filled clubs representing Northern cities.. not quite the same, but similar.

Anyway, I've searched for similar comparisons in sport around the world (to American college football) and I happened to come upon this recently written article about the divide in German football between East and West. Even if you're not a soccer fan, but fancy yourself a history/politics enthusiast, this is an interesting read.
