I see that Detroit is looking at tearing down a lot of their blight and replacing it with farms and orchards. That seems like a mighty big project and will most likely involve lots of lawsuits and use of eminent domain. Here in Houston it takes years to get rid of a seemingly abandoned Apt complex. Trying to find the owners, legals stuff, owners saying they are trying to fix them up, etc. Just can't go in and bulldoze them.

I wonder who would run these farms and orchards anyway?

Just as it is wise (and necessary) for a growing city to have a master plan and a planning committee, it is also wise for a city in decline to have a plan for shrinking in a way that helps lessen blight, etc.

"Now, with the recession plunging the city deeper into ruin,"

Silly me.....and I came to the decision early in my life that Detroit could be a medium for a successful career.

Thing is....for many years beginning with the 1981 recession it was a struggle. But I did get a glimpse from about 1998 thru 2007 of just how right I was. But....I think that was the last we will see of what Detroit once was.

Great people....even Malloy .....down to earth and full of spirit.

Hope they make it back somehow.

Hmmm I wonder what the pay is....I could even purchase MCG's house at a reduced price of course...I wonder if they would allow me to carry my normal arsenal of firearms as their farm manager like we do in the south. Then again it is Detroit, it may be mandatory....

How did you get into Agriculture Management? I wouldn't think Miami would have had a major that would have led you down that path. Texas A&M sure, but not Miami.

I wonder about security on Detroit farms. To show you how ruthless some Detroit residents are, one thug actually beat ane robbed Rosa Parks years ago. The steal gutters from churches, they've just finished looting the recently closed Kronk Gym.
Today is just another day in Detroit. Former city council member and wife of Congressman John Conyers, Monica Conyers was sentenced to 37 mos. in prison for bribery. Former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, son of Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick was arraigned on probation violation stemming from his conviction on perjury.
The city is a complete mess. However, city council is making every effort to cure the city's monumental problems. Just last week that had a long heated meeting at which the proper attire for strippers was the topic of discussion.
Detroit Public Schools (DPS) are horrendous. To demonstrate how thier leadership is completely inept, here are some portions of emails sent by the president of the Detroit Board of Education

Read the link to see the other email. For some stupid reason, I can't post one of them using cut and past.

I didn't make the cut on the circus circuit so farming seemed kind of fun..

Grin, no Miami does not have a degree in Ag that's for sure. I moved to Central Florida and attended Florida Southern with a great reputation for teaching Citrus managment. I am not a big fan of the City of Miami or any big city for that matter. We always lived closer to the everglades and the outskirts of the greater Miami sprawl and when the city started moving out on top of us it was time to go. Actually UF is the only other school in the state that offers degrees in horticulture and is where my brother got his degree.

    More bad news for Michigan:

I guess that means the state will need to change its nickname from the Wolverine State to something new.

    Bobda,

Do you think that this might be a twilight zone kind of omen for Michigan sports?

Up til now, I thought the use of the word "weasel" was a good-natured poke at the UM mascot. After reading that article, I realize that the mascot is a weasel.....in fact, it's the biggest weasel of them all.
