Violent crime stats up double to triple digits in major cities from coast to coast. In the slag heap formerly known as Portland, Oregon homicides are up 240%.

I didn't realize that defund the police was still a thing. I thought it died as a far left mantra in the face of escalating violence everywhere in the country. The above poll would seem to confirm it.

Pendulum swung way too far after the George Floyd tragedy. Not a big surprise that it is swinging back, but I do hope that police departments all over the country are taking a hard look at how they go about things and develop strategies to deescalate situations, so we have fewer suspects/fugitives shot and killed.

I hope that in the future we have a non-lethal way of subduing suspects. I mean like the star trek laser set to stun. I know a lot of people had hopes for the Taser, but they have not performed well it would seem and can escalate situations or with some who have underlying conditions become lethal

Don't forget that almost all confrontations with police that end in death are instigated by a non-compliant and threatening suspect. My son tells me that cops are only investigating the most serious crimes ( murder, rape, kidnapping ) and not much else. Simply not worth risking your life, health, financial freedom, reputation and possibly freedom to investigate. Her says no once cares and no one above has their backs. Tasers? You take a 250 lb suspect amped up on crank and they don't even bat an eye.

It's not as simple as fewer police on the street which is obvious. Recruiting is way, way down and they are finding themselves reduced to bottom feeding with applicants who normally would never be considered. Also, the cops still on the job are so worried about their command structure not backing them up that they are avoiding any situations that could threaten them administratively.

And when criminals are taken off the streets they're through a revolving door and back out in no time. Bail reform is a disaster. NY passed a law requiring prosecutors to disclose the names and addresses of any witnesses INCLUSING the victim. People who have been mugged or beaten up are afraid to go to the police. The criminals who will be back on the streets in minutes will know where to find them. And the politicians claim that crime is down, when in reality it's not, it's just that victims are terrified to report it.

Looks like he was injured in the "landing." Pretty bad luck to have a rough landing and end up on RR tracks. I wonder if the RR's insurance will now have to pay for the damage to the plane. (always the attorney.)
