Congratulations...I thought the Irish played a really good football game today.

I saw a lot to feel encouraged about...mostly our offense, obviously.

Question is: is our defense really bad, or are they just too young...probably a combination of both. :?

I thought our kids did pretty well in terms of hanging in there and not throwing in the towel...that TD on the fake field goal at the end of the first half could have been a stake through the heart.

I'm out of town starting in the AM...taking my laptop and hopefully will have internet access, but I wanted to get this in before I left, just in case.

    Good job today.

Thanks, Stu. I was there. It was a good win. Still a lot of work ahead for the Irish. Purdue is a young team. The depth chart I saw listed only 3 seniors among the starting 22.

Fort Wayne, Indiana was very well represented on the Purdue side, with Selwyn Lymon (#1 - well over 200 yds receiving) and Anthony Spencer (#49- a defensive nightmare for the Irish).

    Sid,

Did you take your disposeable poncho with you to the game!! :) Looks like you might have needed it!

    Thanks Stu,

Purdue offense looks so much better than it did last year. As far as defense it was hard to tell, your DLine did get to Quinn a number of times, but was vulnerable to the outside run by Walker to the left side.

    Terry,

Ha ha! You have a good memory. Actually, I was better prepared for the rain with rain pants, a waterproof ND nylon pullover, and my waterproof ND widebrim hat. I have a good supply of disposable parkas ($1.00 @ Walmart). I gave one to one of the guys I went to the game with, and he appreciated it. I need to get a cool rainsuit like yours. :)

    Thanks Stu,

I thought that Purdue was just too young in some spots. There were times when every Dback out there was a freshman and that's asking a lot against senior players like Samardzija, Carlson and McKnight. On our side of the ball, Darin Walls got toasted/confused a few times too, but he was just one frosh. The Boilers always had at least three frosh back there in coverage and that's two too many...

Curtis Painter has a cannon for an arm. His deep outs and mid slants were 60 mph bullets.

    Always...

<t>Happy for an Irish win as no win is a bad one. Nice to see the running game step it up and BQ have an outstanding game. I won't even go into the woes of the defense as there are many. Poor Walls was lost as a goose but he had plenty of help and #9 just took the day off. I went back and watched different plays of the game and we have no pass rush and most of the time our linebackers are just lost. Very disturbing to me.<br/>
The good news is an awful Stanford team is next (actaully shut out last night) so we will be 5-1.</t>

    Hey Sid
Were you on the side of the stadium where it was raining?

Seriously, everyone probably had the same thoughts that I did. First, Walls must have leard a lot yesterday if you learn from your mistakes. And if that's Zibby's definition of safety help to end the first half, we don't need any.
Our defense can just not get a consistant rush on the opponents QB. With an average secondary, that is bad, with our secondary....disaster.
The O line has a few games to get their act together. They too are very inconsistant.

The good news for us is that it was a freshman wideout who was doing all the damage...no wonder Tiller gave him the #1 number for his jersey before he even played a down.

That was a nice win, and the Irish should cruise until USC.

    Congratulations.

I know that it looks like ND can "cruise" but AF is a difficult team (ask Tom and the Vol fans.) And (no laughing) Navy looks pretty tough this year (ask UConn) Looking at Sagrin's ratings Purdue is 50th, Navy 51st and AF 38th.
Oh and Sam Houston St. is 142.

    Stu,

I believe #1, Selwyn Lymon from Ft. Wayne, is a sophomore. He was at Purdue last year but scholastically ineligible. Check me on this, but I think that means he was not eligible to be redshirted.

Either way, he's a good one.
