coming into the last day of bowl games (sans the NC)... According to the NCAA article How every conference has fared in this year’s college football bowl games | NCAA.com The records are as below: AAC: 2-4 ACC: 5-4 B1G: 3-3 B12: 3-3 CUSA: 4-2 MAC: 1-5 MWC: 3-2 P12: 3-3 SEC: 4-3 SunBelt: 3-2 Indy: 2-1 Now what strikes me about all this is how even it all is coming into the last day
Corey, were they counting the playoffs? Those 4 games are the top 4 teams by design. The others are thrown together for various reasons. I guess it doesn't matter, it just seems that an Oklahoma loss to Alabama is a little different than an Arizona St loss to Fresno St.
With three Big Ten games remaining, It appears we will end up playing 500 ball. The conference was overrated early on in the season and never quite lived up to expectations!
It'll be interesting to see that Texas/Georgia game. Longhorns did pretty well vs the OU offense this season, twice. I doubt if Georgia's offense is better than OU. UGA defense is better than OU though, although the Dawgs had their best defensive back decide not to play. Maybe Texas QB Sam Ehlinger can take advantage of that, if his OL can keep him clean.
That's interesting. So far the ACC has the most games. Like every year there are surprising results. Missouri losing to Oklahoma State surprised me but that 4th down stop with a minute to go did the trick. Actually missing an extra point and a short field goal made the difference because if they had those four points they could have won the game with a field goal. Looking forward to the games today and then next Monday night.
Yes, ND is the lone loss for the Indys and Alabama was considered a win for the SEC. The SEC actually moved to 4-3 with A&M's win last night. You could always click the article and read it
Corey, it was more a question about the analysis of the level of competition from top to bottom in a conference since the playoffs came into being but that's ok it's just a couple of games.
that's actually a good point, but it's always been one P12 fans make. We've often faced the 'better than you think' MWC in bowl games while the SEC/B1G were playing AAC/BigEast/CUSA teams in the smaller bowl games. It's all exhibition anyway, so it's all really in fun.
The picks in the bowl contest have proven to be remarkably close when it is all done. Quite a few upsets but that makes the contest interesting.
I think this year is about what most P12 fans expected. We would have liked to have a better showing in the Rose Bowl, and by that I mean a win, but other than that... I think the record reflected what we knew about the conference. Lots of young teams. Lots of new coaches with thin rosters who couldn't take on injuries. USC sucks and Mike Leach is a GD pirate!
Ahem, I beg to differ, F the huskies! As long as the Cougs came out on top in their bowl win, I could care less if the rest of the P12 went 0fer infinity. (Okay, I have no real angst about UA, CU, UU, and OrSU doing well, but the rest can go pound it.) YEP!
Kesley, I usually pull for the other SEC teams because primarily it helps Alabama's SOS. When Auburn, LSU and A&M winwin, it helps Alabama since we play all of those teams in the regular season.
It's deeper than that for both sides. There is legitimate southern pride in chanting SEC, SEC, SEC. There is legitimate, heartfelt meaning in the Pac12 when we all go tell each other to f*ck a goat.
I think conference pride in the B12 is lukewarm. No doubt some B12 fans root for other teams as wins against outsiders boosts the conference, but still not a full throated B12, B12, B12.
Oh believe me kp, being in the SEC footprint now I completely understand why you guys pull for your conference, but the mindset that conference affiliation is second in importance only to your team has always been quite confusing to me. I hear about all the hate down South and how religious the foosball is down there, but then they all get on each other's bandwagons at the end of their "right respectful contest". No thanks. I do see a use for my conference to be strong. I in no way see rooting for my rivals to be really good as a means for that to happen. F uw.
A Florida player near the end of the Michigan game was captured on ESPN writing SEC SEC on a Whiteboard. That's typical of teams in the SEC when winning out of conference games. Myself? I have to be a Bama fan on Monday night and I can choke that down much easier than if it was Georgia repping the SEC instead.
I never root for Auburn. I do hope they'll win in the bowl games. I have an affinity for LSU and Tennessee, although the.relationship with Tennessee has been strained in the last 15 yrs or so. I guess most of the SEC does pull for.each most of the time.
