The Aggies have some long relief questions, but the starters seem to be solidifying and the defense is actually decent, with a pretty darned good left side.
We've played the usual easy pickin's up to this weekend.
The Dirtbags of LB St are visiting, and so far the Ags have taken 2 from then with the finale tomorrow.
Have no idea if they were supposed to be good this year, but I'm sure they are a large step up from who we've been playing.
So far... I'm feeling pretty good.
I know Childress will never get past the first round of the CWS, but I can always choose to hope!
    :p

Saw on the scroll that Augie passed.
Didn't much care for his last school but the guy could coach.

Yeah I saw that, no doubt he was one of the great coaches in college baseball. Won 2 Nat'l Titles and played in the CWS a lot.

By the time he retired/resigned at Texas most fans were ready for him to go though. Doesn't change how great he was for most of his career.

I had the pleasure of meeting him several times while he was at CSUF during his 2nd stint there. Augie did things his way, and I really respected that about him. He also didn't care what anyone thought about what he did, which I respected even more but it made me wonder how he survived at Texas with their nit picky alumni.

He knew how to rub elbows, you don't survive in Orange County and Texas without having that ability. The 3 years I did Freshman baseball at Ontario, I took the kids on a field trip (which I am pretty sure would be illegal now in California) to a Cal State Fullerton baseball game. I took them early enough so that the kids were there for early outs and stretches. The first year, it gave me the opportunity to explain to Augie what I was doing. The 2nd and 3rd year, I had his direct number so I could just call and set it up. He loved the idea of taking kids from poorer areas and exposing them to college athletics. He greeted every kid like he was a long lost friend and he always made a point of calling over the super star players as well as the local players so the kids could see it's something that can be attained.

The baseball world lost a great one.

So the big complaint about Augie was the absolute insistence on small ball. Now I know Pitching is 100% of baseball, and you need to be able to manufacture runs, but his reliance on small ball drove a lot of fans nuts. Gorrilla ball however never got old! :)

It never got old, but when they took the boom sticks away, those guys were left hitting fly ball outs.

    Small ball is the game.

    #%*$(@#!!!! BULLPEN!

Our bullpen has now cost at least 3 games and I see no "relief" in sight.
Long way to go... but if these fools can't take a lead, or a tie after 6 or 7 from the starter without wetting their pants, we're going to circle the drain fast...

Interesting discussion on another board on the impact of state tuition help on baseball programs.

Apparently in some states if you graduate from HS and meet certain criteria you get tuition assistance when you go to one of the state colleges. A guy from So.Carolina posted this.
I've heard the same is true for LSU and UGA. Also one guy said Vandy being a private school can give academic assistance based on their own criteria and that is one reason why even though they have high tuition they still have large signing classes every year.

Texas does not as a state have any programs like Louisiana, Georgia and So. Carolina and they don't give academic scholarship aid like Vanderbilt does....so this is given as one reason why we've seen the rise of TCU and Dallas Baptist and why Texas baseball has struggled.

Well college baseball season is closing and the playoffs are starting.

Surprisingly Texas won the B12 regular season, even though Texas Tech is ranked much higher in the baseball america poll. Longhorns are #14 and Tech is #7. Roger Clemons kid Kody had a great season for the Longhorns. David Pierce is in his 2nd season as the baseball coach so maybe things are turning and the Longhorns will get back to the level of excellence that Texas fans expect from the team.

Rice coach Wayne Graham was not retained, he was in his mid 80's and they felt it was time. He didn't think it was time and was disappointed in not being retained. Program has been in decline recently and no doubt it was time to bring in a younger coach. Lance Berkman a former MLB star with the Astros and Cardinals and a Rice graduate has expressed a desire for the job.

Purdue beats Ohio State in opening round of B1G tourney, and has now won 19 of last 21 games. RPI improved to 35 and likely clinched NCAA Regional bid.

Longhorns were shocked by KU, now in the losers bracket. I don't think it means anything though we've had a good season and will be in the NCAA's, but might affect our seeding.

Irish were decimated by Clemson yesterday, 21-4...baseball doesn't have a mercy rule. :?

Hopefully that is the last game for the Irish Coach Mick Aoki, he's had a enough time to develop a program and he hasn't, the best they have been under him is Mediocre. The team, players, fans and the school deserve better. Time for a new guy, and a commitment to having an excellent program.

Well the Aggies have won 2 so far in the SEC tourney which should have moved us from bubble team to "in"... now we try to get up to a 2 seed or maybe even a host a regional if they win the tourney.
Not the year we were hoping for but at least we didn't suck.

how about the pitcher tonight for LSU? The Tigers made a move earlier in the game that caused the DH to be lifted. The pitcher lied to the coach about being a good hitter in the past and he hit a game winning RBI double at the plate.

How does a HC not know about his players abilities? I mean don't they scout these kids before they give them scholarships?

How about that Ole Miss pitcher making a terrible error on a grounder back to the mound.

Longhorns eliminated by OU ...2 and out in the B12 tourney. Not worried that they won't get into the NCAA, they will get in and most still think we have a decent chance of hosting a 1st round series.
