Bye week for my Buckeyes and a well-deserved rest. Looks like the playoff picture is gradually beginning to take shape.

Question now is how will the fallen from last week perform this week?

Clemson seems to be the media favorite at the moment. How will Baylor progress without their QB? (Assuming he will not play for a couple of games)

I really love this time of the year watching college football.

Don I keep reading that if somehow the B1G East ends up in a 3 way tie, that the rules say the highest ranked team in the College Football Committee rankings is the champion. But those don't come out till Monday or Tues so that the B1G won't know the East participant for sure till then. I guess all three teams could continue to practice like they were going to get the nod for the B1G Championship game.

    Quick Look at Schedule...

WVU vs TCU, this is where the rubber meets the road in the TCU schedule. They have a very strong closing schedule, and it starts Thurs night with the visit by WVU. WVU has been a pretty salty team this year, they have a good defense.

UF vs UGA....UF wins this one and that pretty much seals the deal for them as SEC E Champion.

Wash State vs Stanford ...Wazzu is on the rise, the Pirate has the team playing well, and they get the Cardinal in the Death Valley of E.Washington! :) Stanford like ND can not afford another loss if they want to get to the playoffs.

OKState goes to a dangerous Texas Tech. Nobody really seems to think OKState is a serious B12 contender, but they are undefeated. They like Baylor and TCU need to just win out and they would be in. Easier said than done.

Looking at the full schedule...some important games.

    Thurs Night.

UNC at Pitt, no playoff implications but big for the ACC

Oregon at ASU, pre-season this looked to be a huge game.

Friday Night : 4 games none of consequence

    Sat

Ole Miss at Auburn...the run begins for Ole Miss...Win out is all they need.

    So.Carolina at TAMU...if ever a team needed a win it's the Aggies.

USC at CAL ...USC needs to keep winning, CAL needs to start winning again.

OU at Kansas...Stoops knows he not only needs to win out but look damn good doing it.

Maryland at Iowa...good year going for the Hawkeyes, no doubt they want to keep it going. Maryland gave Penn State all it could handle in that 1 point loss last week. They of course have an interim coach.

Vanderbilt at Houston ...Cougars need to continue to win, and SEC team Vandy will be a nice notch on their belt.

Mich at Minn...Have the Wolverines regouped from the kick failure.

Texas at Iowa State...this is counted on as a win for the Longhorns..would be disasterous if we lose.

Urban Meyer interview on the air with Mike Francessa today..

    1. Learned from Lou Holtz. 'You don't have to be the best team in the country. You just have to be the best team in the stadium that day. Just win.'

    2. I loved Notre Dame. Didn't want to leave. I was offered the Bowling Green job and turned it down. I called Lou Holtz who asked why I turned it down. I told him that it wasn't a good job. He told me 'of course it's not otherwise they wouldn't be speaking to you. ' I called back and accepted the job.

Baylor QB Seth Russell done for the year. Too bad the kid was having a great year. The backup was a very highly recruited kid, but is a true freshman. We'll have to see if Art Briles and Son can plug him in and keep it going, and it will be against the toughest part of the schedule.

Iowa State fired OC Mark Mangino, Paul Rhodes apparently got tired of Mangino stealing his lunch out of the office fridge! :)

I don't know if this helps or hurts Texas. I guess the new guy could always change things up, but more likely things stay the same.

This type of injury is always troublesome. Hopefully his backup (freshman) will be able to weather the storm, but it is a tough break for Baylor.

Tough to feel sorry for Baylor.
Their backup should have played at least 14 full quarters of ball by this point, but I'm sure Art left the #1 in to pad stats and get in the Heisman conversation...

Bye week for Alabama and LSU. My heart needs the break.

Auburn looks pretty bad. I think they had like 7 or 8 dropped passes last week. Ole Miss should be okay for another week.

UGA vs UF - UGA has qb problems and they don't seem to have been able to compensate for the loss of Chubb.

I'll all of y'all sweat this Saturday. Maybe I'll wash the car or something.

Hmmm... word is that Kyler Murray and Jake Hubenak will split the reps this week at QB while Kyle Allen rests several nagging injuries.
Why the kid was in the Ole Miss game at all is a mystery?

I still want Spavital run out of town, but doubt Sumlin is listening to me.

    :x

    11am game in the rain.
Sure to be "big" crowd for this one.

    Doubt it.
Bringing in a new guy mid-season wouldn't work.

Besides... the nutrition center limits the amount of fried foods.
He won't come within 10 miles of that place.

    :p

    I don't know...
There are a lot of folks pissed about how the offense has been allowed to wallow.
Rain and early kick is a nice excuse to vote with your absence...

One guy I really respect called Spavital the "Typhoid Mary" of offense.
He usually tows the company line...

Why are supposedly smart coaches so hard headed? Sumlin not the first coach to seemingly be oblivious to what those outside the program see so clearly.

I don't blame them for not taking a media poll before they hire somebody and I certainly understand when they stick with him during the season. Not a lot of guys fired midseason and the team suddenly turns it around. But so often it's like they dig in and refuse to change just to piss off the fans/media.

When you take a good look at the criteria, it's a legitimate source of comparison. A contrarian could say, how do you know elite team so-and-so would not go undefeated against ND's schedule? Well, the less-than-100% probability takes that into consideration. Some elite teams might, some would not. The probability calculations for both "elite" and "good" teams take into account the weak non-conference schedules of most power 5 conference teams plus the relative weakness of some teams inside their conferences.

Looks like Sumlin has thrown it open to all...said that Allen, Murray and Hubenak all have a chance to start on Sat.

If he sits Allen, I wonder if Allen will transfer at the end of the season.
