Some really good games this weekend. 1. Clemson vs Miami How good are the Hurricanes? Nobody really knows, but their destruction of FSU makes a lot of people feel they might be legit. Presence of D'Eriq King at QB is a big factor. Miami defense looks fast and hard hitting. But then they haven't been tested by a team like Clemson. 2. Alabama at Ole Miss . Tide looked formidable vs a good A&M team. Ole Miss just doesn't have enough to slow down Alabama. 3. Georgia vs Tenn. This game could be very good. Tenn has made a lot of progress under Jeremy Pruitt and has the nations longest win streak right now. This was a really big game in the 90's and if you remember the poster named Tailback, a Georgia fan, he seemed to hate Tenn more than he hated Fla. Expect Georgia to win of course, but I'll bet Tenn shows a little more offense than we saw from Auburn. 4. Florida at Texas A&M. Aggies will need a lot more offensive cohesion vs the Gators. Florida is really good on offense, Kyle Trask is a legit QB. I'm not sure that UF has quite the defense that Alabama has though, so maybe Kellen Mond will be able to get the offense going and score some points, he'd better because the Gators are likely to put up at least 35. 5. Notre Dame vs FSU Irish favored by 21, coming off of 2 weeks layoff. FSU though has really struggled and right now isn't a very good team. Irish will need to knock of the rust early and as always you never want to give an underdog a chance. FSU does have talent on their defense though, it just hasn't played very well so far. 6. Ohio State - off 7. Miami at Clemson 8. UNC vs Va. Tech A couple of unbeaten ACC teams. UNC just got by BC last week and Va.Tech just got by Duke last week. UNC considered a contender for the ACC Championship game. UNC QB Sam Howell is considered one of the better QB's in the country. Va. Tech has a lot of transfers. 9. Penn State - off 10. Oklahoma State - off other games. Texas vs OU in Dallas...loser is in a heap of trouble with their fanbase. Texas Tech at Iowa State ...ISU is unbeaten in B12 play. KState at TCU ..was the upset of Texas a fluke by TCU? KState is also undefeated in the B12. Missouri at LSU.. LSU got after Vanderbilt last week, Missouri not a great team and you'd expect LSU to win just based on talent. Miss State at Kentucky ...Air Raid was on a high after LSU and a low after Arkansas. Kentucky is a pretty good team and will test the Pirate.
Here's hoping the Gator defense improves. They could be our downfall if not. I am really interested in how Tennessee fares against Georgia. I am not quite convinced they are back but I read somewhere that their whole starting OL was rated five stars. The Irish should feast on FSU. And we should get a feel for just how good Miami is or is it all smoke and mirrors. I think they are pretty good but not in Clemsons class.
Ok Terry, you made my day! I can't predict anything about the Gators visit to Kyle except: A) I'll be there. B) Mond usually plays well at home so there is hope.
We are brining a couple of Kyle's ourselves Scott. Pitts and Trask. Kyle Trask just admitted that his parents were bit Aggie fans and he was named after Kyle field.
I would be shocked if Meyer takes the Texas job. But ........... I was shocked after he retired from Florida then took the Ohio State job.
A nice tidbit, Bill! In ordinary times he'd likely have a huge contingent of family and friends at the game, but this year maybe just his parents.
As far as Urban Meyer, I guess it just depends on whether or not he wants to coach again. He's got a good job right now, and I'm sure that he's financially secure, so I'm not sure what the motivation would be for him. Not to mention that at both Fla and Ohio State his health became an issue and from what I remember there isn't a treatment/surgery that is possible to eliminate that brain issue that he deals with and which seemingly gets worse with stress. But make no mistake, Texas is a great job for the right guy. There is plenty of money to be made, there is a lot of talent in the state of Texas to recruit and the facilities are top notch and the Austin environment is very attractive to young people.
Well it's the problem almost everywhere, except at Notre Dame where ND fans have had issues with the hires since Holtz from the day they were hired. Not all the fans of course, but Davie, Willingham, Weis, Kelly all were not popular hires in each case there were other coaches that fans wanted and felt like the Admin sold us down the river with the hires. Of course the coaches they wanted like Stoops, Gruden, Urban Meyer, etc really were sort of pie in the sky but there were more than a few who claimed that they knew that those guys wanted the job but only under certain conditions that the ND folks weren't going to give them. So they went with the low hanging fruit. As far as Herman, he was the hottest young coach going at the time. So it was pretty easy for the fanbase to be happy with the hire. Charlie Strong on the other hand wasn't as well received by the fans who at the time were thinking like ND fans, that Saban was coming but that DeLoss Dodds and others screwed up and gave into Mack Brown.
I'm sure someone will start a my wife saw Shelly Meyer with a Realtor looking a property in Barton Creek, where Charlie Strong lived.
Terry, I think that somewhere in this article there's a comment that a certain Houston dentist is leading the charge. Is Texas over Tom Herman? Horns fans are clamoring for former SEC head coach to get hired
LSU/Missouri is leaving Baton Rouge and headed to Columbia Missouri due to the Hurricane headed it's way. Louisiana has really been hit hard by Hurricanes this season, not sure they have recovered from Laura and now they are facing a Cat 4 in Hurricane Delta. I don't think it'll change the outcome though, Eddie O getting the Tigahs rolling again.
SEC has warned teams that they must continue to follow protocol or face fines starting at 100K and going up with each violation. It's mostly over masks. "The imposition of any reduction in Conference revenue for failure to substantially comply with or repeated disregard of the SEC masking requirement will be determined at the Commissioner's discretion," the memo states. "In addition, individuals who fail to comply with or disregard the masking requirement could be subject to penalties, including but not limited to, suspension for a specified period." In consecutive weeks, high-profile SEC games have featured coaches improperly wearing their face coverings. Mississippi State coach Mike Leach was shown frequently with his mask pulled down during his team's win over LSU on Sept. 26, and on Saturday, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher was shown repeatedly not wearing his face covering during the TV broadcast of the Aggies' loss to Alabama.
Kevin Sumlin has tested positive, but of course the Pac12 won't be playing football till the 1st saturday in Nov so he's likely to be on the sidelines for the 1st game.
