It's Wed, time to put last week behind us and look at this weekend. There are 3 games involving top 10 teams #1 UGA at #10 Auburn #3 ND at #7 Miami #5 OU vs #6 TCU So there will definitely be some big changes next week in the Committee rankings. Also. #2 Alabama @ #16 Miss State #4 Clemson vs FSU #8 Wisc vs #20 Iowa #10 Wash @ Stanford So all the top 10 teams have significant games this weekend. Only Clemson really has a foe who is very unlikely to present much of a challenge. The others are all playing good or great teams. ND, OU, and TCU are definitely eliminated with that 2nd loss. UGA, Alabama, Wisconsin, and Miami all could lose and still be in the hunt if they win out and finish as 1 loss Conf Champs. It's getting good folks!
What that big win over UMass not impress you? The XM Sports guys, Taylor Zarzour and Greg McElroy both think Nick Fitzgerald will give Alabama fits!
Corey, Mississippi State has lost to Georgia and Auburn (No.1 and No. 10). That's not too bad. It's at least on a par with most of the other 2 loss teams that are ranked. Ohio State lost to Iowa. Michigan State lost to Northwestern. Hell NC State lost to South Carolina and they are still ranked. Now maybe they shouldn't be ranked but if so then a lot of other teams shouldn't be ranked either. :?
This time of year, usually after the first big wave of upsets, I worry about every team. Miss State is not great of course but they are good enough to beat Alabama. Just ask Don about Iowa!
Every SEC team has a shot at being bowl eligible. 5 losses is the most any SEC team has at this point. Not likely of course that they will all get to 6 wins if they aren't there already though.
I'd say that ship has sailed with the Ohio State loss to Iowa and Penn State loss to Mich State. But with 3 games amongst the top 10, there will be changes. I guess you couldn't call those upsets. I'd say Wisconsin might be due, but Iowa having to go to Madison off the big win at home vs Ohio State I don't give them much of a chance. Certainly Miss State could upset Alabama, and the biggest upset would be if FSU got it together and upset Clemson. Hey on the Coaches turntable...I read that A&M have their hearts set on Jimbo Fisher. While A&M is a good job, it's not better than FSU so I'm not sure other than money why Jimbo would want to leave FSU. He has no connections to A&M. Cricketts out of Tenn and UCLA.
Alabama has lost 2 inside linebackers and 2 outside linebackers to injuries probably for the rest of this season. That's a big hit. Our lack of a pass rush has suffered. LSU was able to run on us and Miss St. has a dual threat qb that can hurt us especially when we are thin at linebacker. A turnover or two and this could be a trap game.
I didn't realize Alabama had lost that man LB's. But if there is a team in the NCAA that is equipped to handle injuries it's Alabama. Alabama by virtue of it's incredible success recruiting since Saban arrived has a roster stocked full of talented kids. Of course the problem is that they haven't played so they are inexperienced compared to the guys who went down. But so much talent sitting on the bench sometimes even though there is inexperience, the talent shines through and you go from 3rd team to solid player looking at being an AA in a year. Miss State certainly could be a closer game than what Alabama fans might like.
That's a huge hit, even just from a communication standpoint these are the guys who manage your defense on the field...
yeah it's not an excuse but it is tough to cover, and with Miss. State having a pretty good dual threat qb it is a concern. That's why I said earlier that I will be happy with a 1 point win.
Meanwhile in Gainesville the dumpster is blazing. I suspect Will Muschamp won't be the guy to douse that fire this Sat. S.C. continues the thrashings endured by the undermanned Gators lately. Good read on Muschamp and the Gators: http://www.gatorsports.com/2017/11/dooley-least-muschamp-understood-florida/
I'm sure the atmosphere at least at the start of the MSU/Alabama game is going to be really pumped up. MSU crowds are known to be loud, of course getting off to a good start tends to counter that, you don't want to keep them in the game till late to give their crowd a chance to really get crazy.
Interesting that like the Irish when they fired Charlie Weis had to pay him for awhile and also pay Willingham when Kelly was hired. Gators facing the same thing, paying both Muschamp and McElwain and maybe have to pay the buyout for the new coach along with his salary. It's expensive to make mistakes in hiring coaches. Dave was that article saying that Muschamp maybe should have been given more time, that people were sad when he was let go?
On the coaching carousel...I saw an article on ESPN that said if Frost takes the UF job that Neb might look at McElwain along with Matt Campbell the Iowa State coach. Also the North Dakota State coach who has been successful and was a player for Osborne.
I think the writer of the article was sympathetic to Muschamp because of his UF background in Gainesville but in reality..... his team lost to Georgia Southern with 28 future NFL players on the roster. How in the hell do you do that??? His offense was never going anywhere in the minds of most fans.
Look for no points scored at Nebraska if McElwain takes Nussmeir with him.... sorry AJ better keep your fingers crossed that doesn't happen.
Do Not watch this at work, or maybe only at home with the doors closed. I've never heard of Stingray before, but he's a Miss State MegaFan. Tosh.o goes off on him, the SEC, etc. So if you're a SEC fan don't watch this either...or even live in the South...well unless you are Corey O'Connor he will find this funny..I think. <div><div><iframe src="//media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:arc:video:comedycentral.com:ea9ed223-2afd-46bf-8f2b-4fe0fdb6631f" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div></div>
