The time has finally arrived for the 2015 season! Games will commence on Thursday. As KP says, we are all undefeated at the moment. Who will be the first to taste defeat amongst us? No way will the Buckeyes lose to VT in Blacksburg! (I hope)
Thurs: TCU at Minn Friday: Wash at Boise State...the return of Chris Peterson. Sat: Texas at Notre Dame Wisconsin/Alabama neutral site Arz State/Texas A&M neutral site Stanford at Northwestern ..academic bowl! Virginia at UCLA ...true frosh Josh Rosen to start for UCLA at QB. Louisville at Auburn ... Petrino vs Gus. Mon: Ohio State at Va.Tech Those are the big games this weekend.
I don't know about you guys, but I was finally able to get my first dose of CFB Saturday, when #12 Montana took on #1 North Dakota St. NDSU is now 58-4 over the last 62 games, after going down to the Griz 35-38 with a 2-yard TD run with 2 seconds in regulation. This was a fun game, considering we still don't have DIA games for another few days. NDSU was ranked #1 before the loss. Montana was ranked #12 before the win. Montana St. is currently ranked #11, with their first game this Friday. And that is probably the last time you'll hear me talk about DIAA football this year, except for the 13 SEC games they will play this year.
Terry, maybe it's my bias, but I would include Michigan-Utah as a relevant and interesting game Thursday night. I look forward to watching it...with Grumpy John my Michigan friend.
You're right Stu, it's Harbaugh's first game and while neither team is ranked it will still be a big game. I just looked at UM's non-conf schedule, they really are dipping into the West for this season, Utah, BYU, UNLV and Oregon State.
Not a big game, but Oregon vs E. Washington will be interesing. Why? Because of Vernon Adams, the best QB in FCS the last couple of years and where did he play? E.Washington. He graduated, just barely in time, and moved on to Oregon to take over for Marcus Mariota. Think those guys on E. Washington would love to make his life miserable, you bet they have some extra motivation. Because of his late graduation, he was not able to go through the summer with the Oregon team and he was not able to practice with the team till last week. So he's the starter and he's been at Oregon for a whole 2 weeks.
Alabama vs Wisconsin - Who knows? Alabama is favored but I think it all depends on our defense. If our defense is stifling, we are ok. If not we are dependent on a starting quarterback with no experience. We'll see.
The old ball coach takes a little poke at the Ohio State schedule and past Texas A&M schedules. Always keeping it real! http://collegespun.com/big-ten/ohio-state/steve-spurrier-says-sec-fans-rightfully-upset-with-ohio-states-easy-schedule
The old ball coach forgets to mention that the week before his "in-state rivalry game" he plays The Citadel....oh wait maybe that is his in-state rival.
O'Leary can take a poke at the Buckeye's schedule if he likes, but remember is coached a team at Notre Dame for the shortest time on record as well.
Don, For Alabama it does. We don't have the run and gun offenses that some teams have, so when we come up against great opponents, we have to score a little and stop them a lot. 8)
Pretty much up through most of the season everybody said the B10 didn't have a chance of getting a team into the playoffs after Mich State lost to Oregon and Ohio State lost to Va.Tech. The conventional wisdom was that Ohio State's strength of schedule wasn't good enough to get them back into the top 4. I can remember even Eddie George saying that even if Ohio State won out he didn't think they would be able to get in. But I don't think he was factoring in complete ass whuppings of Mich State, Mich and Wisconsin all on the road. So we'll see.
