Time for a new topic, the Big Red Train kicks off the season tomorrow in Dublin with Northwestern. So it's game on boys. Full slate next weekend starting on Thursday night and continuing on through Monday night with Clemson / Georgia Tech finishing things up. Have you made your picks?
Not exactly 2022 stuff, but I'll post here anyway. Today, the 12th Man Foundation and University formally announced the construction of 23 new suites in Kyle Field. It would affect sections 240-246. My seats are in 244, so I have been expecting to get a message about being booted at some point. As you've probably seen me say, I had decided when that happened I'd shut it down and watch with my fellow Couch Coaches. Then this email came for me shortly after the press conference: My seats are 4 from the end of row... 8. I'm in the FRONT ROW BABY!!!
First upset of the season, Northwestern beats Nebraska. Not the start to the season the Huskers or Scott Frost needed.
So true Terry about Frost. I really thought he would be successful at Nebraska. As I remember when we got Mullen Frost was our number one prospect but he went back home to Nebraska. Thought for sure he would do well there. Then we targeted Chip Kelly and he went to UCLA. Dan Mullen came and ended up flaming out and now we got Billy Napier. I am very optimistic about Napier. But anyway I was pulling for Frost to be successful at Nebraska, for AJ's sake of course.
Totally baffled why the Huskers did an onside kick after scoring late in the 3rd to go up by 11. Gave NW a short field to punch in a TD and turned the entire game around.
If this story becomes common knowledge in Wisconsin, I know which B10 team will be scheduling a game in Dublin.
A small addendum to my last post why the Badgers playing in Dublin are a hand in glove fit. One interesting thing about the map is that the few “drunken”counties outside of Wisconsin are pretty near to the Badger state.
Bobda! I just saw this! That's Jake Sorensen, my Monday night golf league partner! His co host on the 93.7 "The Ticket" morning drive show is Steve Sipple. Steve and I were on the same VFW boxing team back in Columbus, NE.
Pitt/WVa the renewal of the backyard brawl. Might be a good game, it's tonight. Unfortuneately I'm here in Franklin NH and the house we've rented really doesn't have a TV. Penn State vs Purdue is another good matchup. This weekend besides ND/OSU there is a big game between Georgia and Oregon and Utah and Florida. Both of the games involving the Pac12 are really big games given all that has gone on with the Pac 12. A couple of wins on the road by Oregon and Utah would really help bolster the conference
CFP board of managers is going to meet Friday for discussion of the expansion of the playoff to 12 teams. Also ESPN and Fox are going to negotiate with the B12 over media rights and some say if a new deal is struck it could lead to OU/Texas moving to the SEC next season rather than 2025.
Terry, rumors are floating that the XII moved up their negotiations in an attempt to pilfer the Arizona's, Utah, and Colorado from the fading PAC. If that can be worked out, then the SEC expansion moving up makes sense...
The game last night between West Virginia and Pitt turned out to be a thriller. That deflected pass and interception by Pitt in the last quarter proved to be the difference.
Tennessee look mostly good in the opener against Ball State. However, that is the alma-mater of David Letterman, not Bear Bryant. A few issues to work out but not many. My largest complaint is with the announcers’ attention deficit disorder. Yes it was a runaway game but why did the idiots in the booth start debating the benefits of ice cream sandwich cookies with the on the field reporter and completely disregard what was happening on the field. They were good in the first half but I think they popped the cork on a few bottles during halftime.
Tennessee’s opponent in the next game is Pitt. They put on an impressive performance in the last few minutes of the game against West Virginia. We play them in their back yard. I think we can take them but they are definitely better than Letterman U.
I have watched a lot of football over the years. Iowa slipping by South Dakota State today by a score 0f 7 to 3, via one field goal and two safeties. As a good act of sportsmanship Iowa punted with less than a minute to go, rather than kick a field goal.
Anyone watch the North Carolina - App State game. Final score in regulation 63-61, over 60 points scored in the 4th quarter. The App State QB over threw a short pass to a wide open receiver that would have likely won the game for them 50-49. Then an onside kick that NC returned for a Td and they kicked off with 19 seconds or so to go and unbelievably App State managed to score a TD but missed on a 2 point try that would have tied the game. Never saw anything like it. Now gonna watch Georgia and Oregon till the Gators come on later.
