Scotts last college sport he's following! Teams could start practice last week, Jan 26th and the season opens Feb 16. For the Irish that means a trip to Houston to play a 3 game opening series with the Rice Owls. Preseason top 10 (Well top 13 as I had to go that far to get to Texas) 1. Wake Forrest ...man it just seems odd to see Wake at the top of the list in any sport. 2. LSU ..returning champs 3. Arkansas 4. Florida 5. Oregon State ...these guys have won a couple of CWS, but that was awhile ago. 6. TCU ...program has survived the Aggies stealing their coach 7. Vanderbilt 8. Tenn ...is their coach still the most hated coach in College? 9. Clemson 10. Virginia 11. Texas A&M 12. South Carolina 13. Texas ...Longhorn fans expect more, but David Pierce has been consistent. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/college-baseball-top-25-rankings/
Ah... my last sport. I'm supposed to be renewing my football season tickets this month... NOPE. While I THINK the Aggies will be really good, I have no idea how they can be ranked 11 right now. The pitching talent appears to be sky high, but it's mostly untested. One thing seems for sure: they will be hell on offense with the lineup I'm seeing.
This prob doesn't belong on the sports board, but oh well. Now that we are finally in the new house I'm getting around to opening old boxes that were packed for old storage. Found this Tshirt that I guess is from around 2000... The things we stash ..
I still have the tee shirt that the now deceased GMan had made for everybody who came to a ND game and had beers with him at the Mishawaka Brewing Company.
And... WE'RE OFF! I've heard the NCAA wants it to be a point of emphasis for umps to call "high" strikes this year, so you fellas who follow your teams watch and see how that goes. The Aggies demolished McNeese St 15-0 to open the season. Huge transfer addition Braden Montgomery started off his career for the Aggies in style, leaving the yard in his first at bat. Coming off his rookie sensation season last year, Jace LaVoilette hasn't cooled down, leaving the yard twice. This Aggie offense is going to be stout. If the young pitching is even decent the Ags will be a force this year. In other action for you guys: Bama takes out Manhattan 4-0 Florida loses to St John's 9-5??? Arizona beats Northeastern 6-1 (in case Rick wanders in) Tenn beats T Tech 6-2 in a top 25 clash Texas beats San Diego 7-3 Nebraska beasts Baylor 4-1 Western Mich beats Bob's boys 14-13 in extras Purdue beats Stony Brook 6-0 Notre Dame beat Rice 3-1 Miami beats New Jersey Tech? 8-7 Sorry if I missed anyone.
Egad! I was exploring the possibility of attending some of the CWS this year. Then I saw the ticket prices. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised with what people pay for the championships of other sports, but even the first game on the first Friday afternoon was $250 a ticket for the worst seats in the house. They go up geometrically from there. I understand you can probably scalp tickets right before games for less, but that's a long way to go to hope for a seat that you probably won't be in by first pitch.
Holy Moly... Texas Tech put up 32 runs on Texas Southern today. Yikes! I guess 24 hits combined with 6 defensive errors by TSU will do that...
Yeehaw! Through 11 games, the Fightin' Texas Aggies sit atop the charts of ERA at 1.45 It's early, but the youthful pitching that was a possible concern coming into the year is looking good.
Irish have been come from behind masters, going to Tenn Tech and sweeping them. We're 8-2 but then we haven't played ACC level competition, so we don't know much about this team yet.
We have a serious problem with our SPs. On Saturday, the SP gave up 9 runs in the first two innings, 8 earned. On Sunday, the SP gave up 9 runs in the 1st inning, 8 earned. The good news is that we scored 43 runs in 3 games, including 15 HR!
Kind of the opposite of Scott's boys in College Station. Pitching is going to have to improve a lot you can't continue to rely on a big offense esp when the competition gets tougher.
You can make a nice run on gorilla ball, but when you run into the elites in post season it usually can't get you through. At least you have half the equation. Lots of teams are wondering if they have either pitching or offense.
