Mullen may do well with Florida's resources but Shiano I don't understand.

I wouldn't be too quick to question Shiano's hire. He did a good job at Rutgers with a very weak recruiting base. He tanked in the NFL, but so did Saban, Spurrier, Kelly, Holtz, etc. I'm not comparing Shiano to those guys. I'm just saying that history shows that a coach can be successful in college even if he does't cut it in the NFL. Meyer liked him enough to hire him. That says something for his ability.

I agree with Sid. Schiano turned Rutgers from a wasteland of college football to a ranked program. His coaching acumen landed him jobs at Penn State when Paterno was in his prime and with Urban. He failed at Tampa Bay but if one can learn why one failed at a job, that person can become a better at his profession.

I may be proven wrong, but this guy has a far better portfolio than Dooley or Butch Jones had and might prove to be a good choice for the Vols.

Sid, like I said in the other thread I hope for Tom’s sake I’m wrong bit I think Shiano finished his term at Rutgers somewhere around .500. He will have to recruit his ass off at Tennessee then coach his ass off on the field and win a lot more than 6 or 7 games a year. Has he ever done that? The good news is that we are about to find out.

Well as kp said we'll find out. Schiano wasn't a world beater at R. U.
that's for sure but it is not a place you can be a world beater either. Maybe this hire will be like the Pete Carroll hire at USC. That one was laughed at by pretty much everyone.

I see some reports that Sumlin will be the next ASU, coach. If true I am shocked to say the least.

Not very surprising that Dan Mullen will be the next Gator coach.
He is familiar with UF, has done a good job at MSU and most importantly is familiar with SEC recruiting especially in Florida.

Schiano was accused of knowing about the molestations at PSU and did not raise a flag.

I was highly vocal on the PSU issues... I would be a hypocrite if I supported this guy.

I will go on reacord today saying:

"If he is hired, my days of being a Tennessee Football fan are over until he is let go... however long that takes."

    And the Gators get Mullen.

Not our first choice, but I think he can be successful at Florida.

This story hit the news last year. Here was Schiano's and Bradley's response at that time:

    https://patch.com/california/centurycity/uclas-tom-bradley-denies-turning-blind-eye-jerry-sanduskys-child-rape-penn

    https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/schiano-denies-seeing-sandusky-abuse-while-at-penn-state/

Obviously, the Sandusky events were horrific. But, in this situation, it is a situation where an individual who actually witnesed Sandusky with a child in a shower and did not intervene later accused others of knowing about Sandusky. They denied it. What is the truth is something I do not know.

I think Mullen is an excellent choice.

Frost has been beating the UConns of the world, etc, while Mullen has had winning teams in the SEC as a head coach and has coached in the SEC for a long time now.

Plus Mullen knows a lot about the Florida program and Gator Nation.

    It works for me.

It is now being reported that #Davenport and #Currie have decided to keep their scalps and their jobs. The deal appears to be off.

There's never ending southern hypocrisy in this Schiano story. The two real lessons here are:

    1. Tennessee doesn't know WTF they are doing
    2. Schiano is going to have to get out in front of this Rape State story from here on out because it will never go away. There's a lot of irony there considering the NCAA lifted the ban on Rape State, people seem to have become rather passe about the whole situation because 'what's in the past is in the past.' Paterno got his wins back. One day they'll bring the statue back. Sandusky answered for his crimes, but literally no one else did. Now the one guy who is going to be held accountable for alleged crimes is the guy who is being accused by the one son of a bitch who saw this guy banging kids in the shower but really did nothing except accuse others of knowing...

    But that's not what's rich..

What's rich is listening to people here who I KNOW SUPPORT ROY MOORE and have been saying since Day 1 that 'Well these are all just accusations, nothing has been proven. Why did these harlots wait so long to come forward anyway?" Are now wanting to string Greg Schiano up by his nuts.

Alabama is so much fun some times.

Guess I'll jump in with what I've been told.

So Kevin is out... but apparently going to ASU, which if what I'm told is true was known a while back and has been part of the "deal".
The 10 mil buyout has been negotiated to substantially less thanks to the ASU deal.
Jimbo will be announced as the new coach after his last game.
FSU has finally said yes to his facility improvement requests, but they are years off, and what is proposed won't be better than what is already in place at A&M.
Never say never, but apparently this cake is baked.

that's such a shame because I liked Sumlin and Jimbo is a flaming bag of poo.

If Sumlin goes to ASU I'll be interested to see how he does.
