With the Michigan job still open and with UF's staff not yet filled completely and other positions open like DC at A&M there are still some serious coaching moves to be made. And breaking news: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12035922/geoff-collins-become-florida-gators-new-defensive-coordinator Geoff Collins of MissST as DC to the Gators.
Me too Terry..... that whole defensive staff could have been retained and I would have been happy. Maybe McElwain knows some key guys want to leave.... I don't know.
Coaches like to hire, and work with guys they know, or at least have had some contact with. There's a good chance the new guy hasn't worked with or met Durkin, but did know Collins. That's usually how it goes... I'm kinda hoping the Aggies would grab Durkin. He's got a nice resume, and would help our LB situation.
Paul Chryst still hasn't taken the Wisc job, they say that Wed is the earliest it can be offered and till it's offered he can't accept. I guess it's probably a state law that the job has to be posted on their website for a min of a week so that anybody can apply. It has to be odd for Pitt, knowing that he's likely gone, but that he is in sort of limbo. Also another rumor that Kelly is a college coach the NFL is looking at...While he's done a good not great job at ND, and by great I mean Ara or Lou great...I don't really see what the NFL see's in Kelly based on his college resume. It's not like in his 5 years at ND he's developed a high scoring fast moving offense like Chip or a bone crushing NFL style defense like Saban did at LSU. If he leaves in January when most NFL teams do their hiring the Irish are screwed.
Dan Mullen calls the move of Geoff Collins to the Gators a lateral move. I guess he thinks MSU is now the equal of UF. Quite a step up in the historical context of who's who in the SEC .
That's ok.... Muschamp has incensed some on Gator message boards by saying he is "finally somewhere where he can win championships"..... conveniently forgetting that his predecessor won two SEC and NCs just before him and that UF has three NCs to 2 for Auburn. If Mullen means averaging 7 wins a season is a lateral move between UF and MSU he would be right. But winning those aforementioned championships just may be another story for the pups.
OK I just found out that Durkin coached with Harbaugh at Stanford. Maybe that is why McElwain didn't keep him on, he didn't want to stay and is just waiting for Harbaugh to announce that he's taking the UM job and Durkin will be his DCoord.
Makes sense Terry.... Thinking about Harbaugh returning to AA is probably giving Urban a new case of heartburn....
Well I just read an interesting take on the Harbaugh situation 1. Harbaugh is under contract to SF through next year. 2. He can't negotiate with any NFL team while under contract. 3. The only way he could move to another NFL Team next year is to be fired by San Francisco or Traded by San Francisco. If the SF owner ( A ND grad) fired him he'd lose any possible compensation for him leaving, he'd have to pay him for next year and that would facilitate Harbaugh going to his hated rival UM. So highly unlikely Harbaugh gets fired. So if he wants to go to UM he'll have to resign. If he wants to go to another NFL team he'll have to wait till his contract runs out next year or work out something with SF to trade him someplace he wants to coach. So not as simple as just taking the UM job. I also wonder if he leaves SF for another coaching job even in college will he owe SF money?
Sounds complicated unless he just purely resigns. He won't be in the poor house in Ann Arbor if he has no compensation from SF. He can always rent till he gets his feet on the ground.....
there's so much smoke, fire and conspiracy around this Harbaugh thing that it's either total bull or totally true. If it's true, I'm glad we don't play Michigan anymore.
Doubt it. Saban's not a whiner. Looks like there's another opening at Michigan. The marketing director misspoke. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/c...athletics-marketing-hunter-lochmann/20527205/
""We're trying to entertain our fans" So much for that idea. Better just pay Harbaugh to win on the field and forget all of the hocus pocus..... [/quote]
Damn....Bo Pelini does not burn bridges, he napalms and nukes them... http://www.omaha.com/huskers/bo-pelini-insults-a-d-shawn-eichorst-in-expletive-filled/article_b202b14a-8633-11e4-8c91-f3f5386da4f8.html?mode=jqm
Dang...I'll bet Bo didn't think one of his boys would sell him out to the press...but in todays world he should have figured that he was going to be taped, I'm surprised there isn't a video as well. Bo's nothing if he's not passionate.
To quote Bo, "Yeah, thanks for the advice." Those kids had nothing to do with that. That's a dad exposing his kids to a bad marriage. You're an uptight prick pal, who never got what NU was truly about. Good luck in Youngstown Mark.
That is a great analogy, AJ. I am stealing that line to use during the next college football discussion at the dog park.
