Well it was a bloody day around the Coaching staff in Austin. Todd Orlando the DCoord was fired, also Tim Beck the OCoord was demoted to QB coach through the bowl game, sounds like he was fired but given some time to look around. 2 other offensive coaches were also fired, they coached the receivers. After the Sugar Bowl win last year, Texas fans were afraid Orlando would end up taking a HC job somewhere and wanted him given a big raise and stuff to make sure he stuck around. Fortunes change fast that's for sure.
Speaking of bloody, firing a HC while he's in the home of a committed recruit... kinda trashy. Whatever happened to the old school, cold call, telling the coach and the staff to stay home or come back home from the road? Reports of how Matt Luke found out he was fired shows it’s a rough business
Mike Sherman was fired by A&M when he was at a recruits house as well. I'm guessing it's a lot more common than you think. Hell Kiffin was fired on the Tarmac after the loss to Arizona or Arizona State.
True, but Lane did have that coming. I see there's a rumor out there that Lane's "people" may have been in touch with Arkansas. He'd been quiet on Twitter after that report came out, which is odd for his Twitter account
You know it is odd how things change. How could Orlando go from a treasured asset to expendable in one year. I never understood how Miles was out of a job for so long. Some guy has a couple of good seasons at a second tier program and he is hired for big bucks, big buyouts, comes in wins with someone else's recruits, settles down to a .500 win percentage and then is fired and walks off to get paid for doing nothing for a few years. Or how about the the guy that gets fired for losing, then gets hired at another top program and, what a surprise, he loses again. Weird business.
This is stunning. I recall reading that he has a child with severe medical issues and wonder if he decided to step away from the 24/7 work life of a head coach to devote more time to his family.
That is a huge shock. Seems like a really good guy and a family man, I'll bet he's decided he just doesn't have the time to devote to his family and to coaching and something had to change...so he's giving up coaching.
I was stunned by that just a few moments ago. I wonder if that's true about his child. If it is, I admire his commitment to family.
It definitely is true that he has a child with special needs. Reportedly he stayed at Boise State so long because they had a great situation there with his Medical Team.
Peterson is not a cultural fit at USC. But USC needs to make a statement pretty darn soon about the coach. Can't just leave him hanging out there to dry.
Ole Miss is facing a player revolt over the firing of Luke. Per an article I read from CBS and SI, an OL on the team is named and quoted as saying 'almost half the team is considering leaving.' If he's even half right, that would gut that program worse than the prohibition did.
In the end almost no Ole Miss players will leave. I remember A*M players showing up at one of Fran's last press conferences in support of him...he left they stayed.
