Coaching Carousel: Time for this to have it's own topic. OUT Bowling Green - Mike Jinks Colorado - Mike MacIntyre Kansas - David Beaty Louisville - Bobby Petrino Maryland - DJ Durkin Texas State - Everett Withers William and Mary - Jimmye Laycock (retiring) Eastern Illinois - Kim Dameron UNC Charlotte - Brad Lambert IN Bowling Green - Colorado - Kansas - Les Miles Louisville - Maryland - Texas State - William and Mary - Mike London (former UVA coach) Eastern Illinois - UNC Charlotte -
I don't know for sure of course...but I wonder if Bill Snyder at Kansas State will finally retire again? I wonder if Bob Davie at New Mexico will be retained, they have had a terrible season and Davie was suspended for 30 days earlier in the year after an investigation into his handling of the football program. I wonder if Clay Helton will survive at USC if he loses to Notre Dame . I wonder if Jeff Brohm will be able to resist the temptation of returning to Louisville where he played and the city he grew up in. I wonder if Dino Babers will be courted by somebody. He's done a good job at Syracuse. I wonder if Lovie Smith survives at Illinois. I wonder if somebody will take a run at Charlie Strong.
Maryland has a lot of talent and a lot of money thanks to UA. I wonder as well if someone will take a shot at righting that ship.
James Franklin has denied any interest in the USC job. Which is not surprising since the job is not currently open.
James Franklin is a prick and worst of all, he's already on the record as saying Penn State is his dream job.
Well Clay Helton will be retained as the coach at USC. A good decision, he had 2 very good years and then this year. They are better off keeping him and helping him upgrade his staff and hopefully he'll be a terrific coach long term for them. Kliff Kingsbury however was not retained at Texas Tech. He'll be a hot commodity on the OCoord lists. Larry Fedora also not retained by UNC.
ND <r>Terry,<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE>. Sounds good to me and good for ND as far as I'm concerned.</r>
Kingsbury is a heck of a coach and so is Fedora. Re USC: If Helton was smart, he'd hand the ball off to that kid from Indy 30 times a game and every time the body count reaches 8 in the box, he'll air it out to those WRs with that young QB. They will NOT be a bad team next year. Now that it's in hindsight, I can say how much fun the USC game is. USC had some walk-on freshman out there making big plays and running around at 100mph. They care, at least about us. It's passion. We have some other teams on our schedule that roll over at the sign of a twisted ankle.
Q <t>Mike Sanford was fired by Western Kentucky after 2 years. He had taken over for Jeff Brohm when Brohm left for Purdue. He was at ND as a sort of C0-Offensive Coord / QB coach and was very popular amongst ND fans. Many hoped that after some seasoning that he might come back to ND as a HC. <br/> <br/> Speaking of Jeff Brohm he's still saying that Purdue is where he wants to be as a coach. Supposedly Louisville Ath Dept is in a bit of a financial pickle with a big buyout owed to Petrino and funds being low. So they might not be able to make him an offer financially that he can't refuse.</t>
Holy Batman, Mack Brown might be the next UNC coach. What are they thinking? He's 67 and his career was on the downslide 5 years ago.
I thought Brown had moved on to TV. Like Corey said he was successful at UNC before Texas. He could put together a pretty good staff with all of these ex-head coaches that are going back to coordinator jobs.
Clay Helton and USC are cleaning house today with multiple assistants leaving, more to follow. It will be interesting to see who he is able to bring onboard for his staff.
BC OCoord Scott Loeffler gets the Bowling Green job, rumors on the ND boards were that Brian Polian was the leading candidate. It's hard to imagine Polian turning down the job but with the Irish in the playoffs I wonder if the Bowling Green people decided they needed somebody who would come in full time right now and not try to split time with 2 jobs. Jeff Brohm is meeting with Louisville today, that's not a good thing for Purdue. He said after the IU win that Purdue was where he wanted to be, if that's true why bother to interview. I imagine that he'll either take the job today after the interview or not and Louisville will move on to the guy from Troy. Tenn OCoord Tyson Helton has taken the Western Kentucky job.
Here's a name that's out there but nobody is talking about...Bret Bielema. He had some really good teams at Wisconsin, never could get going at Arkansas, had a couple of decent seasons but never could get over the hump to being a contender for the #2 slot in the SEC West.
