This makes you wonder if this new generation of kids are going to be able to cope with the demands of a rigorous football program. Can you imagine what Bear Bryant would have done with these kids... http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/uf-closed-practice-causes-chaos-after-player-mutiny-28891
Much ado about nothing. The two players are practicing, it's nine days to the first game. I think this comment the writer made to end his article speaks volumes about his agenda.
I agree Terry, but it would be a mistake to believe the inmates are running the asylum, make no mistake that Meyer is firmly in control. Still much ado about nothing. And it's the type of thing that before the internet you wouldn't even have heard about.
Bill I have the feeling that many of our legendary heros would be more infamous than famous if the Internet was around back then.... The media of all venues has made things different...
Indeed...I've always been a firm believer in watching them play a few downs before annointing them kings. Many kids these days come into camp wearing the "crown" given them during the recruiting process proudly.....it seems Urbie is having to deal with that.... I have no doubt that Meyer is large and in charge, but this is not a welcome development in the locker room with the opener looming on the horizon. If they Gators have the necessary upperclassmen leadership, one would expect them to help put these prima donnas in their place.
Well, Easley and Powell were both pretty upset when they heard that former Gator football player Walter Odom had been shot to death while in Gainesville ............ then they learned that was just another "lie" by that "guy".
I can't even imagine what the press would do today with Bear Bryants Junction training camp when he was at A&M. He probably would have never been able to coach again after they got through with him.
I agree with that and I think a similar statement by the Sr. Pouncey is at the root cause of the rumors. I call them rumors because as I read Meyer's comments it's nothing but that. In any event the first live game will cause any intra-team strife to dissipate. These guys need a real opponent to go against instead of each other and that is the same story every end of summer I would imagine.
Over the years I've been aware of kids getting homesick, discouraged about position changes, lack of playing time and leaving the team for a few days. Heck one of our top Sr's who has turned into a hell of a ND representative and is even in Law School this year while playing his 5th year, left the team for a week or so and went home. But I actually can't remember a kid refusing to practice in an attempt to protest the coaches talking to him in a negative way. I don't watch that behind the scenes NFL show but they were talking about a Jets rookie who was mouthing off back to his position coach and after practice the vets took care of him. Duck taped him to the goal post upside down and pour all sorts of vile liquids over him. I think that's what BuckT was referring to regarding Sr. Leadership taking care of things.
Well, I'm not sure what has been reported is accurate. My source, a neighbor who works for the Univ Athletic Assn, says that which has been written is not an accurate reflection of what happened; most reports from the "internet people" are greatly exaggerated. Then, keyboard jockeys misinterpret the mindless meandering from the "internet people" ..... and fan the rumor "flames" spreading across the WWW. Realize .... lots of media folks (especially the "internet people") are taking their shots - embellishing and fabricating stuff - because Meyer "shut them out" of the practices. What's great is the freak writing the article at the link above .... faults the closing of practices for the intentional misrepresenations by the media and others ..... as if access to practices would keep the media from fabricating their mindless tripe?! That's a laugh.
True or untrue, it's much ado about nothing, IMO. If there is a problem with freshmen, whether walkons or #1 recruits, the combination of the senior leadership and the coaches will handle it. Period. The issue arises only when outsiders get hold of the "story" and run amock with it.
