How about a Russian Christmas? When I was in college, one of my profs had been the U.S. Navy's attache to the Soviet Union. The name of the class was "Communist Political Systems" and it was one of the most revealing classes that I ever took. As a former military spy who had lived in Moscow for years, his insights were like nothing else I ever had in six years at that university. He predicted the fall of communism and the return of the Christian Church in my lifetime. His reasoning was very simple: the communists had made a serious error in their attempt at brainwashing the Russian people. The government forced both men and women to go to work, and tried to separate the children from their parents as much as possible. The task of actually raising the children of the Soviet Union was thus left up to the "old babushkas"......the grandmothers. Here we are, forty years after I took that class in 1971, and Russians have been celebrating Christmas again for twenty years. Was my old prof good or what?

re: Celtic Woman: Wexford Carol Wow! Great stuff! I had never heard that before. re: Der Bingle and Der Bowie That was an all-time wowza. I saw it when it first appeared on TV, a long time ago.

I was watching Midnight Mass from the Vatican tonight when I was stunned to hear an announcement from the English language narrator, Fr. Tom Powers. He said that Pope Benedict has named a new Papal Nuncio for Ireland and it's an American: Mgr. Charlie Brown...a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. http://the-hermeneutic-of-continuity.blogspot.com/2011/11/mgr-charlie-brown-new-papal-nuncio-for.html
