Probably makes a lot of sense for that program. Trying to give Snyder a run for his money. Weis Recruiting JOCO's
Oh yeah Bill Synder is shaking in his boots over Charlie trying to horn in on his JUCO recruiting! I do wonder what Bill Synder could do if he had the talent that Will Muschamp will be getting at UF this year, or what Saban is gettting. I'm thinking that Synder is one of the best coaches in college, esp considering he rarely gets any top rated talent. He has to actually coach lower rated players and JUCO's up.
No doubt he Snyder is a good, no make that great, coach. But I don't blame Weis for doing what he is doing. It's a fast way of getting some older players on the field. We will see how it works out for him. So far he hasn't made a lot of friends out there. And while I was really excited when we got him as the Offensive Coordinator I am also glad he is gone.
No doubt recruiting is part of being a great college coach, but also being able to develop the available talent is job 1. You really can't compare the talent that Kansas State has access to what even Notre Dame has access, much less a top level SEC team like Alabama, Fla, or LSU.
Tennessee has been very tight lipped about recruiting... more than normal. Could be bad. However, Ut is holding live video feed of signing day starting at 07:00 eastern tomorrow. I will be tuned in between business calls.
kp, the same reason that the Kansas Basketball program has an advantage over Alabama basketball, history and reputation.
Well I think there is a lot of good football played in the state of alabama and as Bill pointed out Alabama has a long history of success that draws in kids from Georgia, Louisiana,Mississippi, Florida etc. I'll bet there are more D1 players within 50 miles of Tuscaloosa than in the whole state of Kansas.
Terry, I assume you mean D1 football players not basketball players. I don't know. Part of me agrees about the local talent. Another part says that it's the coaching staff. A big part of being a good college coach is recruiting. Alabama has a very good football coach, I don't think the same can be said about our basketball coach.
I would have to disagree with you kp, you have a very good basketball coach. He was all but signed to be Billy Donavon's successor when Donovan decided he would rather stay at Florida than go to the Magic. Also he took Va Commonwealth not only to the NCAA tournament, but won several games there. He may not be in Saban's class but then again not many are.
 Tyrone Willingham went the JUCO route at UDub with 18 and all 18 flunked out, leaving Tyrone with the only winless season in Washington history and a lot of free time to play golf...
Not that anyone asked, but I like Alabama's hoops guy a lot. It's a tough act in that conference. Basketball is, at best, hoping to be the #2 spot and it has work to do to get there. That's awfully tough when you look at the schools in your conference.
Yes I meant football, heck I'll bet there are more D1 football prospects at Hoover High than in Kansas. And to say you guys have a very good football coach is a little bit of an understatement! You guys will be odds on favorite to have a 3-peat next year and if you pull it off then Saban will be in the conversation as the greatest college football coach of all-time. Something that of course can never be settled but he's in the conversation.

Could be. Our football coach is very good at coaching but he is also very good at recruiting. Does Kansas have less D1 talent than Nebraska? or Oklahoma? I submit that if you look at the great coaches of the last 50 years, they were all superior recruiters as well as x's and o's.
