Looking like Boise State is going to get a bye. I didn't see that happening at the start of the season. No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 3 Penn State in Indianapolis: For the Big Ten championship. No. 2 Texas vs. No. 5 Georgia in Atlanta: For the Southeastern Conference championship. No. 8 SMU vs. No. 18 Clemson in Charlotte, North Carolina: For the Atlantic Coast Conference championship. No. 10 Boise State vs. No. 19 UNLV in Boise, Idaho: For the Mountain West championship. No. 12 Arizona State vs. No. 16 Iowa State in Arlington, Texas: For the Big 12 championship.
I wonder what happens if Clemson, UNLV and Iowa State win their games? Do numbers 18,19 and 16 go to the playoffs?
Yes for Clemson and Iowa State, and UNLV win could certainly make it depending on how Army does in the AAC Championship game, could a big win for the Cadets get them in, probably not but it would be possible. I'd be for going with the best 12, but that would possibly end up with a Power 4 conference winner not in the playoffs which the conferences would never allow.
Neal Brown at West Virginia, fired. Going to be a rush of firings. Also we have our first player whose team is in the playoffs announce for the portal, a back up DB for Georgia who had been the starter but lost his job just recently. Hurts depth. But if he truly wants to play at another school then he needs to go now and see what is out there rather than wait till later
Travis Hunter is the odds on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, a true 2 way player in the modern era.
Oklahoma has hired Washington State's Ben Arbuckle as the school's new offensive coordinator and playcaller, the school announced on Monday. The deal is for three years, sources told ESPN.
How is ND at an advantage not playing in a Conference Championship game? Seems that in a number of cases, the game gives teams a second chance of getting in.
And a chance of playing themselves out. For instance Georgia is 10-2. They have wins over Texas, Clemson and Tennessee. Based on that they should be in, right? However if they lose to Texas in the SEC Championship game, they are 10-3 with losses to Alabama, Ole Miss. Are they in now? Notre Dame is 11-1 with a win over Army, their season is over, and they are in and they get an extra week to prepare and heal. I submit that that is an advantage.
I do think that the premise that the CFP committee will not punish the loser of the Championship games in the Big 10 and the SEC some what mitigates that the extra game is another chance at a loss that ND doesn't have to take. Certainly was true in the 4 team playoff though, last year UGA was a really good team, but lost to Alabama and they were out. Weak Irish schedule this year though sort of leaves me just glad we only had the 1 hiccup and are in the playoffs
Yeah but 3 loss Clemson with no wins over randed teams can win their game, and get a bye into the semifinals.
Come on. Not at all. Gipper said that Notre Dame did not have an advantage because they didn’t have to play a conference championship game. I was proposing that Notre Dame did have an advantage by not playing a championship game. That’s all. Geez!
Rankings are out. 1.Oregon 2. Texas 3. Penn State 4. Notre Dame 5.Georgia 6.Ohio State 7.Tenn 8. SMU 9. IU 10. Boise State 11. Alabama 12. Miami Match ups based on current rankings
No big surprise that some are upset with the CFP rankings. Iowa State and SMU AD's had a twiter spat and the ACC Commish is upset that Miami dropped below Alabama. I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Today is the early signing period for Football, they sign Financial Aid agreements not NLI's. The Portal opens the 9th and there have already been a number of players opting into the Portal. I saw some speculation that Quinn Ewers might not go to the NFL given his good but not great season this year I can't imagine Sark sitting Manning another year, so the speculation is that Ewers will go into the Portal and play somewhere else sort of like what Dillon Gabriel did last year. Worked out great for him
Amen Terry, no system or selection process will satisfy everyone, their are just too many different factors involved.
