It's amazing that they have 20 freaking starters back from last year's team. I think this team might be scary good! It's going to be a clash of the titans in LA.

The numbers are even better looking at the depth chart Aquila. We were a very young football team last year.....we have 41 of the top 44 from the two deep returning this year.

Granted the perspective provided by CFN is somewhat different than the prevailing national opinion often put forth on this board   but I thought the contrast might have some entertainment value at a minimum....

The game in LA will indeed be a monster game.....to say the Buckeye Nation is looking forward to it would be an understatement, as I'm sure are the Trojan faithful. These kinds of quality intersectional games are one of the great things about college football.

It's a similar type of game to the 2005 Texas/Ohio State game in Columbus. Both teams were loaded with top talent and veteran players.

Very similar TOK...both sides have been looking forward to this game since it was scheduled years ago just as we were the Texas game. Both teams are title contenders in the current year and have been among the elite for generations just as in the Texas game.

These kinds of games are great for college football and a credit to the leadership of both programs for having the courage to schedule them.....we can never have too many of them though I fear we are falling victim to the discretionary schedule weenies who have no shortage of rationalizations to explain their avoidance. In the long run, I believe scheduling titanic intersectional match-ups like these is beneficial for any program.

"20 starters are back with the talent level helped by the stunning decisions by LB James Laurinaitis and CB Malcolm Jenkins to come back for their senior seasons."

No reason the Buckeyes shouldn't steamroll the Big Ten......again...

    But....

"But for everyone desperate for some new blood in the national title game, there is hope. There's a trip to face USC early on that could all but end the debate right away."

It won't end the debate. If they lose and then win 10 straight games and finish 11-1 they will be in the conversation. To think otherwise is just ignoring the obvious.

I would say again that for a one loss OSU to make the NC game that two of the three champions of the PAC10, SEC and Big 12 would need two losses to allow the Buckeyes in.

If all of those have one loss the Buckeyes will be 4th in the pecking order.

Not a bias I have just a result of a combination of things that I don't need to list again.

Well BT if the math works out right at the end we will see who is right eh?

Of course the math could not work out in many ways.....too many two loss teams....unbeaten teams...etc....so we will have to wait and see.

In the interim there will be many national references to the issue leading up to and after the USC game should OSU lose.

In the interim, there will be countless national references on a veritable plethora of topics relating to college football in general and Ohio State specifically.....the ones you choose to select and the manner in which you choose to edit and highlight them provides us all with insights into your intent and the depth of your obsession.....

Here we have two Gator fans who spend the overwhelming, almost exclusive, amount of their time posting about Ohio State almost always in some negative mean spirited way. You spend 10 times as much space on the Buckeyes as you do the Gators or college sports in general .....there is nobody else on this board even remotely close to such a ratio? That my friends is obsession.....

BT..."the consensus rankings" topic I started was meant to kick start some discussion about the season in general but some picked out the Ohio State issue as the one to debate.

If Rodney was still allowed here then I am sure he/we would be debating whether I was out of my tree for thinking Florida and not Georgia would play USC for the national title.

If Miami was any better and Gonzo were around then Florida-Miami would get some heated discussion I'm certain.

Some of what becomes a hot debate is fueled by who is lurking/posting on this specific board.

Maybe ND fans want to get in a hot debate about the Irish playing in a better/lesser bowl than my projected Gator Bowl but really....in most college football discussions around the country it is the national championship and who is #1 that fuels the most debate.

Be glad that Ohio State is still part of that mix.
