It's that time of year again when those of us ( UF, Tenn ) who have not had much to cheer about for our team can be hopeful about talent coming in next year: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/teamrank/2014/all/all 9 of the top 14 teams on this list come from the SEC.... pretty amazing!
If it woulda been 9 of 10 you'da impressed the hell outa me....but 9 of 14?.....that's right up there with 4 out of 5 dentist's recommend.....
I don't know AJ.... seems a bit excessive to me... 9 out of 14. I need a dissenting opinion from a transplanted PAC 12 er who is surrounded by the SEC.
Interestingly, you only had 5 teams ranked in the final AP top 15. That means you have 4 teams that are underachieving and you should probably fire the coach. Those teams ranked in recruiting that are not ranked in the top 15 in football are Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ole Miss. If I had a nickle for every time that I heard Ole Miss and Kentucky were on their way up, my broke ass would be rich.
Riddle me this batmen: I have absolutely nothing against Ohio State. But how does OSU have 140 point higher score than Tennessee when Tennessee has one more 5 star recruit, the same amount of 4 star recruits, and 10 more 3 star recruits? This is based off the rankings posted in the link in this topic. I don't understand how that happens.
Tom, I would not be too upset as these recruiting rankings vary with the source like wildfire. Rivals.com has Tennessee ahead of the Buckeyes, so it goes round & round. Enjoy the day!
I hope Alabama gets about 7 5star OL's just like Barrett Jones. The other big need is DB's. I don't care what the rankings are, just get what we need.
I understand that it does not matter that much. I would just like to understand the math behind the calculations.
Tom i understand your question i just remember all of those great recruiting classes at Florida and Texas and maybe they got stars in their eyes instead of getting good players at the positions they really needed. Alabama needs OLs and DBs. Getting a lot of Wrs or Rbs is not the priority. No matter how many stars they have. 8)
Do you guys realize that since Saban arrived at Alabama, every recruiting class he has had except 1 has been ranked #1 by Rivals? The one that wasn't #1 was #5. Dang and he's going to have the #1 class again this year.
If anyone doesn't believe that, you can watch them play. If that still doesn't sell you, there's the NFL draft.
I couldn't help but notice that Scott has as his facebook picture him posing at the site of the renovations to Kyle Field. Man that is going to be huge!! I don't see how they are going to have it ready for Sept 2014 though. Should be a boost to their recruiting, although right now it might require some imagination by the recruit when you show him that pit!
Terry, Good news, bad news: Bad news is Saban is not going to coach Texas Good news is you can go back to calling him Satan 8)
Yeah me too.... and between them they won 3 national titles in a span of about 5 years. In some cases the talent exceeded the coaching in later years.
Tom, How is it that the Vols are able to have 33 going on 34 and Butch said he's trying to figure out how to do 35 new recruits? I thought new SEC rules eliminated that level of oversigning? Also he's replacing nearly half of his scholarship football players in this one class. That's a lot of new guys.
Don't profess to be a recruiting authority. Not sure what determines how many he can get. I do believe that we have been down on numbers the last two years (One of many things that spelled out Dooley's removal). I'm not sure if that makes taking more this year possible or not.
Tennessee had 22 commits in 2013 and 23 in 2012. That may be down from years with 34 commits, but I wouldn't actually call that "down" when compared to the 25 limit. SOME of a recruiting class's commits can count against previous year's class, but did you really lose 7 out of last year's 23 to get you down to 25?
