He suffered from a horrific case of ring worm which kept him from wrestling in the early tournaments this year. Now they are trying to find a place for him to work in mid-season, which can be tough. He's now a rock solid 6'2" 254lbs and the football coach/athletic director is all over him to go out for football as an OLB (the position Carson should have been playing all along in HS) Carson continues to shred weight and add muscle, he doesn't know what to do but he's committed to wrestling still at this point. He became some sort of officer in his frat. He became an ordained minister in the Church of Dudeism (which basically follows the tenants of the Big Lebowski aka the Dude)... So he can actually marry people now. I told him he should clean up on his country ass neighbors who are all in a race to get married before 20 back home. He can make some nice side money doing it. His grades are okay. The only class he's struggling with is religion and I'm not surprised. He grew up between 2 warring factions for his soul. One wanted him to be a Catholic and the other waged a war to get him to becoe Baptized a Baptist. All he's ever done is try to make his family happy, so he's retained none of this **** and is playing catchup in a class where other kids are having an easy time in. His next semester is much harder academically, so I better hear about him in a lot more study groups. I want to hear more about him flexing Bs into As and less about being able to one arm curl full kegs of beer. Still a proud papa.
Corey, at least Montgomery is not a big party town. I'm sure he'll settle in and do fine. With all of the health concerns surrounding football now, I think wrestling may be the best choice. Cauliflower ear is not so bad!
Football a possibility, that's pretty cool. Hope he stays focused on the academics though, that's what's really important. Keep the reports coming!
For me, it's all about hitting the books. I don't mind 'the fun' stuff he finds himself in. He was already in a car accident and came out of that okay. He's had a 1st semester with a lot going on and I think he's handled it okay. He could do a better job with the books though. They have a few more duals coming up and then he'll be home for the holidays. I'm really looking forward to that. I drive him crazy, but I do miss him.
Letter? Kids his age don't even know what a letter is and probably are unaware they even have a mailbox!
T, I crawled firmly up his ass tonight about it so I would be shocked if JOCO didn't get an email in return tonight.
His latest update is that he's starving living on about 800 calories a day while still having practice and workouts. It turns out that they closed down the dining halls even though there's still 4 teams living on campus and playing right now. No one told me this was going to be the case, so we're tapped due to Christmas spending. I'm not very happy about it, but it is what it is.
I think most schools close campus after finals, I'm pretty sure at ND there is a date that the dorms and dining halls close. Not sure what players do for meals but I'll bet it's not a 25$ gift cert to Subway!
The thing that chafes me a bit is that they open the dining hall for football before school opens. That impacts about 100 to 120 kids. It makes sense. With 4 teams still living on campus, it makes sense that you'd keep the facilities open for those same reasons... but it appears not. Oh well, I'll Zelle him some money today and put an end to his great 'ramen famine'
Carson suffered a shoulder tear of some kind and while he's 'day to day' it all but rules him out for this weekends Duals. The coach offered to let him go home early for the holidays, but Carson politely refused and told the coach that, if he didn't mind, he will stay on to cheer for the team even though he's hurt. The coach was fine with that. Hopefully, the downtime will give him the rest for his shoulder that he needs. At this rate, he'll be healthy in time for their match with Central Florida.... and he's gonna need work before he takes on a DI program.
Shoulder tear? Who gave him that diagnosis? A muscle tear is more serious than a strain, or bruise ...I hope he's gotten a proper diagnosis.
Corey, Carson's reply to the coach's offer to go home is a clear indication to me that he's on a path to becoming successful in life. Congratulations, Pop, for the job you've done.
@Sid thank you, sir. I think it's all more of who he is naturally. @Terry O'Keefe the team Dr. Now, whether or not that guy is FOS, I don't know but that's the diagnosis. Carson offered to wear a brace or those strips and they made it abundantly clear that it would not help the issue at all. I think it's a slight to mild tear and hopefully won't require surgery. No one has used the "S" word with me yet. Like I said, if it's a shoulder issue as bad as they say, he won't be back until UCF IMHO.
