 The Cards and Braves both have well run front offices. I suspect that this trade will be good for both teams.
Coach...but they gutted more pitching to make this deal....however, Heyward is still a class A catch.....do you know anything about this Walden guy? I wonder if they're done dealing?.....Mozeliak hasn't made a big trade this early for several years....I'm wondering if the Majority share holders have given the green light to making sure we get another ring?....we'll see.
Walden is a big flamethrower from Texas. He's in his twenties; he's 6'5" and he throws late innings heat. He figures as either a set-up guy for the 8th inning or a closer. I suspect that this guy will be given every chance to win a job as the 7th or 8th inning set-up man. He looks good to me. If you guys don't want him, just ship him west until he runs out of freeway. We could use a guy like that ourselves. BTW- very few teams have the Cards outstanding record of finding and developing pitching talent. I trust their judgment.
I'll chime in with my unsolicited opinion. If I was a GM, my mantra would be, never unload good pitchers. As I recall, Miller is a good pitcher. Heyward has never lived up to the billing he received when he came into the majors. I know the Cards are looking for power hitting. I also know the Cards don't make dumb trades. I'm guessing they see the potential for a turnaround for Heyward and a bright future for Jordan. I hope for their sake it happens, because if Miller shines in Atlanta, there will be second-guessing.
Re: Front offices. Recent article in the Houston paper talked about the "new" front office in MLB. They pointed to the Dodgers as leaders in utilizing all the new tools to evaluate players "analytics" and paying big money to people who are smart enough to use the system and understand it. The Astro's ownership likes this system.
