Didn't want to derail the topic in the sports side anymore than we already had.
Here's a place for Tom, Cindy, myself, and anyone else to talk car stuff.

Yesterday I replaced the oil seals that join the oil cooler to the block on my buggy engine. One thing I can't complain about: access to the engine!
Here it is as I was tearing it down. The oil cooler is standing up to the left.

Had to take off most of the topside of the engine to get to it... those crafty Germans love to hide the attachment bolts in areas that are tough to reach.
Once I got it off... I found that there was a VERY slim area of metal between the oil channel and the exterior of the part.
Below is a pic what it should look like:

The two ports on the right side (actually the bottom of the part) are my problem. On my current part it's paper thin on the outer edge, and I'm guessing it distorts just enough to allow oil to seep under the seal.
3 hours later, the motor fired right up (the good news).
I had hoped the silicon replacement seals would do the job, but alas they did not.
Still leaks from the same place.
SO... I ordered a new piece and will do the process over again in a few weeks.
I really want this thing to be tight enough that I can take it down to the hill country and cruise without worry that we'll be stranded miles from anywhere.
Who am I kidding, it's a 45 year old engine... I'll just put Tom on speed dial!

Hey, come on...there's others here who are handy.

I just replaced both doorbells on my house...and in the process fried the main electrical panel switch requiring a whole new breaker panel ($500), fried $300 worth of parts on our hot water heater, burned out multiple light and outlet circuits, and caused my wife to be without heat or hot water for 3 days (while, of course, I left for Las Vegas for a meeting.)

But the doorbells are working great!

Tom's Speed shop is open for business... "Speed costs money son... How fast you want to go?

We do anything from performance suspension to engines and drive trains.

    Next project in the shop:

1970 T/A Challenger style exhaust and 3.90:1 differential ring and pinion gears on a 2015 Challenger SRT.

For those of you not familiar with the '70 T/A Challenger 340 Six Pack exhaust, the exhaust exits in front of the rear tires. This is what I am installing:

Stu you made a common mistake - using 40 amp doorbells when you only needed 20's.

    Love it!

    Scott...could be...but I think they are 20's.

What actually happened I think is that the master circuit switch was ready to go...hanging on by a thread, as it were...and when I turned the power off and back on it just went.

But I really didn't need to turn the power off to change the low amp doorbells...I'm just a "hate electricity" kind of guy.
