hahahahaha <t>all the home cooking in the world couldn't save Wichita State<br/> <br/> Anteaters onto Omaha</t>
hey Corey, I don't think it's just the Cali boys facing more than just the other team. Even Augie thought we got jobbed on a "runner interference" call when we had the bases loaded. I didn't get to see a whole lot of either Aggie game, but from what I did see the strike zone seemed to change considerably depending on which color was throwing... Oh well... guess we'll just have to blow 'em out next year to make it a no-brainer!
oh this wasn't the strike zone <t>this was a play at first base. the throw was up the line, the 1st baseman made a GREAT play to keep his tie on as he made the catch, and then fell off the bag AFTER he made the grab.<br/> <br/> the HOME PLATE UMPIRE over ruled him...<br/> <br/> it was awful.</t>
yes JIF, college baseball <t>its like the AL East, with defense and literacy.<br/> <br/> BTW-you might want to check it out...bunts, defensive strategy, REAL SACRIFICE.. the way the game should be played.<br/> <br/> not the 'pick and roll' NBA style baseball that we see today in the big leagues.</t>
buzzzzzzzzz <r>no, its baseball if you like baseball.<br/> <br/> if you like jock sniffing million dollar babies that play nothing more than a ramped up game of 'over the line', then by all means.<br/> <br/> real baseball has not been played professionally in America in sometime.<br/> <br/> its sad that i have to watch japanese pro games to see how the game was played in front of crowds that contained my father, grand-father and even you...<br/> <br/> there's a kid who just lost a no hitter and a shut out for michigan in the 9th inning.. its good stuff, you should try it.<br/> <br/> you've been watching AL East baseball too long. You've forgotten what baseball is <E></E></r>
Corey, Michigan pitching was superb, only allowing one hit in 9 innings. Unfortunately the walk and sacrifice bunt, set up the winning run. Difficult loss for the Wolverines, but give Oregon State credit. Some great baseball thus far in the regionals. Don
Corey... <t>Exactly correct. I came out of my LazyBoy yelling at that crew of clowns on that great play by the CI first baseman. At least the color announcer was as frosted over the call as I was. Peotic justice they hung in there and pulled the game out. That team is something else beating Texas and WSU twice in their own parks. <br/> Totally agree on the pro game as well. I hate the summer but love to watch college baseball in the SR and Omaha. Great venues. This was the first year in many I did not attend a regional here in Houston as I just did not want to fry watching the games. Getting old I guess.</t>
I invite you to join me some day ...any day Ill get the tickets at Friendly Fenway. The passion...the capacity crowd..the beautiful ball park..the most knowledgeable fans in baseball land. The excitement of a pennant race..Sweet Caroline after 8th inning..I could go on forever...college ball? no way!
We'll all sign up for opening day next season, Joel. I'll make reservations at the Fenway HoJo once you've secured the tickets. Don't knock college ball if you haven't seen it. It's like minor league ball - real baseball without the high prices. Kids playing hard because they're trying to make it to the majors. I'm still bummed the 'Cats couldn't make it past Wichita State despite only needing one win to do it. Sox trailing D'backs 2-1.
i would agree with rick <t>except for one contetion... its better than most minor league ball.<br/> <br/> A guy I use to coach with back home in California was a season ticket holder for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.... He went 3 seasons and saw every single game played.. Not ONE sacrifice bunt.<br/> <br/> The game, as it should be, is not being taught.<br/> <br/> We have moved onto a day in age of gorilla ball in the bigs and I do hope that one day a manager gets a team to play the game the way it should be, so the world could see what the game once was. Real major leaguers playing real baseball.<br/> <br/> Its all fastballs and 400ft jacks.<br/> <br/> its garbage ball. You're talking about the beautiful Fenway, the fans and the food..You're talking about everything that has nothing to do with the game.<br/> <br/> I'll take any trip to Fenway if someone is offering. I grew up surrounded by Sox fans...</t>
E-1 Timlim. Oy. And to think I'm running in and out during yardwork to listen to this game. 4-1, D'backs.
It looks like you guys have this topic covered. I watched the game too and I was pretty steamed up. Bad calls happen, but a home plate umpire overruling a base umpire is incredible! The plate umpire was the furthest from the play, while the 1st base umpire was standing right there with a clear view! I have nothing against Wichita State, but I'm glad that UC Irvine pulled it out in the end. That coach has created a monster in only two years. The Anteaters are sitting on a ton of talent and he knows how to tap into it. I think this won't be the last time that we see them in the CWS...
Too add on to Corey's point... jif, when was the last time you saw a suicide squeeze??? I saw one in the regional games. Can't say I've EVER seen it in the pro game, but then I don't watch the mercenaries...
I have indeed seen suicide squeezes, not very often though. Im glad they are teaching fundamentals to college kids. Most are never used in the pro's. As I might have mentioned, college baseball is proabably good for those area's of the country that are isolated and have no major league teams. Sometimes I am forced to watch the Saturday GAME OF THE DAY. This is also good for those same area's of the country, because otherwise they would never get to see major league action. However, when you are in a large market and develop a 40-50-60- year relationship with a major league team.....college baseball?LOL?
ummmmm <t>small markets?<br/> <br/> bigger cities that support college baseball:<br/> <br/> Boston is barely a blip on the microscope compared to Los Angeles which supports college baseball quite well. And as much as I love the New England area, don't give me this nonesense about 'regional markets' because the area of Los Angeles to San Diego supports the bejeecus out of college baseball, they produce a significant number of the major leaguers and they are MUCH bigger markets than the Boston area.<br/> <br/> Other cities that are larger than Boston that support college baseball:<br/> <br/> Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Ft Worth, Phoenix, San Antonio, Jacksonville, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Austin, Memphis, El Paso, and Charlotte... Just to name a few. A good many of those have major league franchises.<br/> <br/> You are comparing apples and oranges...much the same way you can't compare NBA to college hoops... or NFL to college football.. but you can't say that large markets don't support college baseball. I love the atmosphere and culture of Red Sox nation.<br/> <br/> But to belittle college baseball is to do a disservice to the game, and the game is where my loyalties lie.</t>
