I dunno..... Pettine's coach speak reminds me of Rexy's coach speak up in New Yawk a couple of summers ago.... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24671190/pettine-on-manziel-could-be-scenario-where-he-doesnt-play-this-year I'm convinced the NFL doesn't want a darter/runner at Qb. They want a prototypical Peyton Manning type ( or Manning himself lol ).
Well given how much they pay QB's in the NFL I certainly understand why they like their QB's in the pocket and well protected...sure let them roll out once in awhile and it's always nice to have a QB who can move in the pocket and make a few yards if he has to...but a running QB, is always going to be a risk. Look at RGIII, he's still recovering from that injury and if he gets hurt again who knows. Some point at guys like Russell Wilson and the SFGiants QB, but those guys really mostly run out of desperation. In college it's another thing, you aren't paying your QB 10-20M a year, well except in the SEC of course, so I can see why coaches like them in the pocket.
Good points Terry and also made by the article. That thinking actually reflects what I thought was going to befall Tim Tebow in his NFL career. I knew he could be effective... win games..... inspire victories, etc. But I also thought his career would be cut short by injury. I don't have a beef with the fact that his career was short lived..... just that he never really got the complete opportunity that I felt he had earned. So.... I definitely do not feel that JM will have a long and illustrious NFL career..... unless his style of play completely changes.... which is probably not going to happen.
