For a course that I have played 20 times, I remember it being in better shape than what they showed on TV yesterday, even if it is a Public Course. I known they're getting it ready for the U.S. Open next year, but it looked pretty brown and chewed up. The greens didn't even look very good. They were wooly and bumpy. The only thing I can think of is that they're letting the beard grow so when they do start shaving it and rolling it for next year, it'll be at U.S. Open standards. It needs to be, young guys are shooting 61's out there on the opening round, however that's the North course which is 5-6 shots easier than the South course that is played both Sat and Sun after the cut. Jiffy, what did you think?
I didn't get to watch it yesterday, but I will predict that the kid who shot the 61 and only has a 6 shot lead on Tiger, needed to shoot a 51 to be in the chase on Sunday and have enough distance between he and el tigre!
I've never played the North course but I've been humbled by the South course about half a dozen times. I played it once with the rough up and it was just brutal. There's a par 4 on the back (11 or 12 I think right after a 220 par 3) that takes a full wedge to get into....on your third shot. it's about 450 but the second half is uphill and the wind is usually on your nose.
Well the kids held up to my surprise and enter the final day tied for the lead but only a couple of strokes ahead of him. They are both lucky that Tiger missed a putt or two yesterday or they would have had to play with him in the final threesome, as it is he'll be right in front of them. Should be a good finish!! We'll see if the rooks can take the pressure.
Well the rooks couldn't take the pressure, made every mistake you can make and didn't have the shots to recover from them. It was classic to watch them fold.
Of all the records in sports, did you ever think that someone could even threaten Nelson's record of 11 straight? Perhaps only Johnny Vander Meer's record is harder to break.
