It has been a long time Stu! I can remember watching Jim Brown playing for the Browns, on Sundays while I was in advanced training at Ft Knox. (1960)

Me and my buddies would gather around a b/w TV and really enjoy those games.

Now if Johnnie will fit into the picture, who knows what might happen.

High Noon in Cleveland, Nov 16th...the debut of Ryan Mallet the Texans new QB!! :) Be gentle, don't throw any bottles at the lad...he's a rather big Target and slow moving from what I'm told.

BTW, what is the word on Johnny Football? Obviously as long as Hoyer plays well he's not getting on the field except for maybe mop up duty. But if Hoyer continues to play well what do the Browns do with him? I wouldn't think he'd bring much in a trade.

Terry, Hoyer reminds me of Kyle Orton...not a franchise QB, not the second coming, not "Master Tom"...but they just keep winning games that he starts.

He's got a lot of smarts and a lot of guts and he's got the team behind him.

The fans are behind him, too, but as soon as he has a game like he did in Jacksonville it becomes short lived.

They will have an interesting off season. It's great that JFF doesn't have to jump right in before he's ready...look how many Brown's QB's have fallen into that trap. And look how many first year QB's are struggling this year in the NFL.

But it would be nice to know what lurks beneath that orange stocking cap before Hoyer goes free agent next year.

Just another championship season for the Lions. They have after all won 1 playoff game in the past 57 years.

You roomed with a future NFL QB at Purdue? That's pretty cool.

So some googling led me to guess that you roomed with Gary Danielson? Mike Phipps never played for the Lions.

That's really cool, have you kept in touch, does he invite to you sit with him in the booth during broadcasts? :)

BTW, I knew you didn't room with Bobby Layne since he went to Texas! :)

Gary Danielson has always been a favorite of mine for some personal reasons. I've been pleased to see him go from local sports night speaker, to local radio personality, to part time reporter on ESPN to national games with Vern Lindquist. Did you room with him Stu?

Naw didn't room with him. Lived in the same dorm. Sat downstairs watching some Celtics-Lakers games with him. If you asked him about me he'd say "who"?

I knew some of his team mates better but none of them made the NFL.

Well I really didn't expect to win the game after hearing that Arian Foster was not going to play. The conventional wisdom was that it put the whole game on Ryan Mallets shoulders, and the rookie Blue had shown a few flashes but nothing to indicate he could take any pressure off of Mallet. Our OL had a hard time protecting a mobile Ryan Fitzpatrick much less a relative immobile Ryan Mallet.

But Mallet came out firing, his release was quick, OL didn't have to protect him for a long count. He could get the ball down field with authority, and surprise of surprises Alfred Blue ran like Arian Foster. The Texans kept their defense off the field and it showed later in the game when they were fresh and still had energy.

Of course we've all seen 1st time starters at QB in the NFL have some great games and then crash back to earth and show why they weren't starters before. Naturally I hope that Mallet is the exception, sort of like when the Rams gave some guy named Kurt Warner a start and he went from nobody to super star. Maybe that's Ryan Mallet. I hope so, it's odd to be rooting for Mallet, for his entire career as football player I've rooted against him. But he's my guy now!! :)

BTW, those of you who have seen my photo's on facebook should know that I went right by Antler Stadium in Kerrville where Johnny Football used to play in HS. :) It's hard to imagine JFF as a kid in Kerrville there are no bright lights in Kerrville. Hardly any bars.

It was a pretty crappy performance by the Brown's. The Texans, and Mallet in particular, played very well.

Our defensive line is a wreck. Major injuries and no depth now. We do get Josh Gordon back next week so once he shakes off the rust he can be a big help to Hoyer...if he stays out of trouble.

I know it's the NFL where MANY teams look great one week, and lousy the next...but the good teams play well every week. We are not there.

Yeah it was one of those games where everything came together for the Texans. You guys get that KO return called back, later you have a guy fumble a KO and we get it. But JJ Watt gets back to back roughing the punter calls and you get a TD off that drive when we had you stopped.

It's tough to win every week in the NFL. You guys dominated the Bengals at their place, then fall apart vs us. We have the Bengals at our place, they are a coming off a very good in New Orleans. Naturally eveybody around here is no talking that we could win 5 out of our final 6...conceding a loss in Indy where we have never won.

Based on the way the Colts lost to the Patriots, anything is possible. Depends on which Colts team shows up.
