    The season has begun.

No surprise that BYU overwhelmed Texas El Paso. Looks like Heaps came of age today and will be an outstanding QB, if healthy, for at least the next two years.

Northern Illinois 40, Fresno State 17? What gives here? A MAC team dominates a WAC team? I watched the game. FS just plain quit in the second half. Must have been the NIU QB from near Ft. Wayne and the NIU RB from Indianapolis.

    Let the games continue................

I picked Fresno State, I figured they had played a tougher schedule and their coaching staff was intact, while the NIU HC was gone to Minn. So much for that theory.

You never know what's going to happen in lower level bowl games. Some teams take them seriously, while others don't. I had great doubts that Texas El Paso belonged in a bowl game at all. BYU, on the other hand, was a talented team that underperformed all year, but nobody ever called Texas El Paso "talented" that I ever heard so maybe that outcome was inevitable.

Like Terry, I picked Fresno St. to win the other game, but that was a contest of evenly matched teams. I thought that NIU losing it's coach might give FSU the edge, but apparently the Northern Illinois players were happy that he was gone...
