Holy Cow...this is just...WRONG. And I have been a huge New Orleans fan since Drew Brees went there. Will this taint his legacy? Bounty Hunting
There is a disconnect between NFL films having highlights of "big hits" and ESPN always showing "big hits" and this. I don't like the whole idea of a bounty on players, if for no other reason that it implies intent to injure and that is just wrong. But maybe the NFL needs to reconsider glorifying the big hit.
The league has a number of rules to protect players such as penalties for chop blocking and clipping. So while they're protecting the defensive players, the defensive players are conspiring to injure the offensive players. As to Stu's first post, I don't think that this reflects of Brees at all. I do think it reflects badly on Peyton. It seems unfair that the Saints will be crippled by the league which will obviously help other teams such as the Rams where Williams is on staff.
The rules are the only things which make these violent events a "game" or a "sport." Attempting to injure someone is not like stealing second base. If the rules aren't going to be observed, then they should move these contests to the parking lot...
