I happened to catch a few seconds of an interview on ESPN radio this morning, I don't know who the commentator was, but it was with Bob Davie obviously talking about last nights' game and probably because much of the coaching stafff in Florida use to work for Davie at ND.

Anyway, the part I caught was Davie praising Urban and Mattison and also stating something to the effect of... this win reflecting the reasoning behind Meyer's decison to supposedly turn down the ND offer 2 years ago and take the Florida job because it was just easier to get better talent at Florida than ND.. "no question about it" were his words.

First of all, I mean no disrepect to any Florida fans on this board but Bob Davie is wrong. Not about Coach Meyer, he is a very good coach and will continue to do very well at Florida year in and out, but ND's inabilty to attract talent the level of Folorida/mich/OSU/Miami etc. during Davie's era and subsequently willinghams' can only blamed on their own inept recruitng ability!

Ron Zook, recruited the majority of the starters on Floridas team last night. Unfortunately for him he is a much better recruiter than coach as has been demonstrated at Florida and continues to do at Illinois.

It took Meyer to coach the players to accomplish what they did last night. Zook never would have taken this team to a NC game.

There was obviously more talent on hand at Florida 2 years ago than at ND but that was Dave/Willingham's fault.

Bob Davie wasn't and won't be a successful head coach anywhere no matter how much talent he has and as long as he is the head coach, you can expect recruiting will never be good.

Charlie Weis has already proven and continues to prove that the right staff can still attract the "A' list players to ND and he can coach them(offensively anyway).

Bob Davie seems to be getting more bitter about being fired from ND each passing day.

The truth is that ND is still 2 more good recruiting classes(and a new defensive coordinator) away from joing the elites again. CW does know how to recruit, it's called called getting off your damn butt and doing some hard work on the recruiting trail. Davie just didn't understand that and ND is still paying for it. 8)

As far as I know, Davie had one head coaching job, ND. Since then, no one has hired him and he's had to make his living with his mouth.
Perhaps he can impart some of his wisdom to Charlie. Let's start with recruiting QBs. Poor Charlie can only come up with the top rated QB in college. Davie on the other hand had his nuts handed to him by CJ Leak.

Davie needs to just comment on games, he obviously knows nothing about being a head coach. <E>8)</E></r>

I believe it was at the Purdue game last year when Davie said
"If Charlie is giving a clinic, I'm going." It's probably too late for him to learn about coaching football.

    re: Tyrone Willingham

Why don't we hear any more of those weekly comparisons between Charlie Weis and TW? After 2 seasons Charlie is #5 on the all-time ND coaching list, behind only Rockne, Jesse Harper, Ara and Leahy. Meanwhile over at U-Dub, Tyrone is in a heap o'trouble and it won't get easier for him next season either. In one five game stretch the Huskies 2007 opponents include USC, Ohio State, Boise State and UCLA...

    Ouchie!
