I didn't know Urban Meyer had a new contract, but I expected he would get one. Billy Donovan 6 years at $3.5 million per year and Urban Meyer 6 years at $3.25 million a year. Both contracts have a seventh year option. Billy and Urban's New Contracts Now I understand why my seats keep going up every year!
Wow...Urban gets less than Billy D. I don't think there is another elite level Div 1 football coach that makes less than the basketball coach.....alhtough both make tons of money!!
I didn't see the pros knocking down the door to hire Urban. I see where Paris Hilton got her sentenced reduced from 23 days to time spent by Billy as Magic head coach.
If Urban continues to be successfull at Florida, it's only a matter of time before the Pro's become interested. Heck at one time there was talk of Mack Brown going to the Pros.
Terry, Billy has much more of a track record at this point. If Meyer keeps going I imagine he would pass Billy at some point. Gipper, you are right that the NFL is not beating down the door to get Meyer. I think there are several reasons and one of them is that at his press conference when he was introduced at Florida he also made it clear he's a college coach and isn't interested in the NFL. I'm not saying that couldn't change but he sounded sincere to me. Another reason might well be the offense re run doesn't look like an NFL offense. I did read one writer this week that said the NFL will eventually throw a lot of money at Urban. Pretty funny about Paris Hilton.
Bill My comment wasn't meant as a slam at Urban, it just explaines why BD is being paid more. In a word leverage.
In New York this year just days before the BB title game and smack in the middle of the Kentucky tugfest I was assured by a true insider ( her boss at ABC network Ad Sales was Billy D's cousin) that Billy D valued his family ties to Gainesville above all else and at the end he did turn down the GUD Ky and only considered Orlando because he could commute to Gainesville. Two years ago at Lexington I met Urban's "agent" at the bar at the Griffin Gate Marriott and he assured me that he was out of a job with UM because Urban was at UF for the rest of his life. I think I believe him.
MCG wrote: I think you left out two words: "WANT To" I know if I were in your shoes, I would want to believe him!
Of course I "want" to believe him but I cited the Billy D inside story as evidence that when I get the inside scoop to the point that I have it tends to be pretty credible it seems and so I believe that guy in Lexington who is on the board of regents at Bowling Green and who is also obviously a lawyer and Urban's contract negotiator.
I understood Gipper, but I also think Billy D has earned the right to be the higher paid right now. If Meyer and Donovan both stay for a long time and Meyer continues to be successful then I think he passes Billy. But I don't think either one has anything to be concerned about financially. Tom, I have to say it's more than I want to believe him, I do believe him. I don't think he would have gone through what he has gone through the last week if he was not serious. So I believe! 8) 8)
Someone pointed out on GatorCountry that both their salaries amounted to 3 million a year plus 250 thousand for each national championship. Makes sense to me.
Here's an article from ESPN about their salaries. Apparently Donovan is the highest paid BB coach and Meyer is 2nd to Nick Saban's 4 million a year. Highest Paid Tandem Like I said I know why my football season tickets have gone up! 8) 8) I remember not to long ago when a college coach that was paid $500,000 was making very good money.
