With Purdue upsetting MSU last night and Illinois defeating Wisconsin, the Big Ten race has changed overnight. Both of these upsets happened on home courts. Illinois and MSU are tied for first place. Ohio State can make it a three team tie with a win over the Hoosiers at Bloomington this evening. Don
Wasn't that much of an upset...cripes we're 20-3. But MSU was favored so I guess I have to give you that. I prefer to think of the B10 race as a 4-way tie in the loss column this am.
Stu, 20-3 isn't too bad! I did not see the game with MSU, but did note that Kalin Lucas did play some of the game. Pretty quick recovery from that ankle sprain. The Boilers did themselves proud on the road. Bressling Center is one tough place to win.
Interesting conference race with 4 teams having 3 losses. MSU has lost 3 of its last 4 games but remains tied for 1st. Illinois has earned the tie with wins over MSU and Wisconsin (away) in the past week. Purdue has overcome its bad early stretch to move up into the race, and OSU with Turner definitely is a contender. I wouldn't count out Wisconsin (4 losses) either.
IMO, if Minnesota and Northwestern can finish league play at .500 or better and look decent in the tournament, it could be as many as 7 teams. Realistically, it probably will be 5-6 teams with either Minnesota or Northwestern on the outside or at least on the bubble.
I think the prognosticators have written the B10 off. Heck, if you listen to the ESPN talking heads you'd think the B10 has hardly ever made the final four.
MSU has an injured point guard and they are struggling. But it's only temporary. As I recall MSU played in the championship game last year. BT basketball is just fine.
That is true, Mike, but MSU's point guard, Lucas, missed only one game and actually played pretty well during the Purdue game. Meanwhile nobody is giving us any love over the fact that our only true point guard has missed the entire season until recently...and only started having limited minutes the last couple of games. But that's life.
I was reading this morning that many of the fans left with 11 minutes remainingin the game at Bloomington last night. No doubt the Hoosier nation is going through some difficult times. Any thoughts out there by you Hoosiers? I still remember Dennis Woods and his passion for the Hoosiers. Don
