The other shoe has dropped folks. They have also offered Notre Dame and Rutgers. Big 10 Makes it's move
The only thing I wonder about is why RU would want in on the B10, beyond the money. In the Big East they have a chance to be a regular player for the title in football, and thus a BCS berth. Move to the B10 and they don't have a prayer and I'm not sure what other sport RU has that could prosper more in the B10 than in the Big East.
I think this could be the begining of the end for the Big East. If B10 expansion, even if it's only to 14 teams, triggers SEC expansion the SEC will look towards the ACC to pick up a few teams like FSU or Miami or Ga.Tech. That will force the ACC to look to the Big East to pick up some more teams to make up for the losses to the ACC, that means Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, maybe even WVa. Terry
ND/B10 <t>I feel a bad moon rising....ND is gonna get forced into this thing one way or another. Between the B10 and the Big East both pushing the issue, ND will be forced to make a move. I like being Independent but I don't want to get left out in the cold with no one to play on Saturdays:?</t>
The BIG T Conf....also know as the Jerry Jones Conf... UT TT OSU OU UH Rice TCU Baylor and Ark if he can pull it off.
How about this a Western League made up of 2 divisions of 8 teams each. Pacific Conference Wash Colorado Oregon Oregon St Cal Stanford UCLA USC Plains Conference Texas OU Texas A&M Texas Tech Oklahoma State Az ASU Wash State The 2 conferences will play round robin schedules for a total of 7 games, with 3 cross over games each year and 2 non-conference games for a total of 12 games. The Mountain West will be expanded and take the BCS bid from the Big East, with 12 teams they can also have a Conf Champ Game. Air Force Colorado State Utah BYU Kansas Kansas State Iowa State Boise State TCU Baylor UNLV San Diego State
Terry, looks like a good conference. However I think you meant two divisions of eight teams not ten? Some interesting times ahead this summer. I'm betting Notre Dame makes the move this time.
Bill you are right I did mean 2 divisions of 8 teams. That lineup makes a lot of geographic sense. It would be the top teams (except Neb) west of the Mississippi and that's a lot of TV's and homes. So possibly the TV deal could be in the same league with BTN and SEC deals. I said in another topic that the key to the deal for ND would be a viable and strong Big East conference in all sports, except football. If the Big East stays together then ND can remain independent. Whether or not Big East football is good or not is not the key. ND non-football sports can not go back to being independent as they were before joining the Big East. If the Big East falls apart with Syracuse, Pitt, UConn, WVA, RU, all going to different conferences then it's the end of ND football independence. We would join the Big 10. Terry
Another thing to consider, is that there is talk about a B10 Hockey conference that would be bad for ND, it would kill off the CCHA and ND is in the middle of building a very nice state of the art college hockey venue....would be another reason to join the B10.
Personally I think all of this conference hopping kills traditions and is bad business. Even the Big East was finally starting to build a few traditions and rivalries. Taking Neb out of the Big 12 effectively lays to rest the old Big Eight. I am just not sold on all of this.
I'm not surprised... but a little sad. I kinda like the XII. Terry, I think your super West conference idea is doable, but I suspect WSU would stay in the Pacific division, and CU would be in the Plains...
