UCF at least has a claim. 10-3 with their victory over SMU, winning Conference USA. O'Leary took quite a bit of flack over recent years but is now winning and doing it the right way. They have a new stadium that holds a little over 45,000. I believe a new basketball stadium also. They have multimillion dollar sports complex. They just beat the Gators in basketball. Ranked in the top 25 and if FSU loses today probably will be the highest ranked team in Florida. If not then at least the second highest ranked. In a fast growing area and they are now the largest college in terms of enrollment and I understand the second largest in the country. USF has blocked their entrance into the Big East in the past, but the Big East is nuts if they don't bring them on board.
We were talking about O'Leary the other day. It's a real shame that he got caught up in that resume' deal. Once it happened ND really had no choice but to void the deal, I do think he was the best of the coaches that we hired after Holtz. I think if he hadn't had that problem he might have been our coach today, whether or not he would have won a NC who knows but I'll bet we would have had no fewer than 8-9 wins a season and a bowl game every season if he'd been there instead of Willingham or Weis. That said he also might have been like Earle Bruce, a successful yet not necessarily appreciated coach if he'd meerly kept us in the top 25 every year, but not ever had us in the NC race. We'll never know. Glad he's gotten things back on track in his life, it had to be pretty miserable for a couple of years. The other thing do you remember that after his resume' padding was exposed there were several other coaches who also had that problem, including one who was fired for it but later was able to prove he wasn't padding it...I think it was the Col or Col State Womens basketball coach. Terry
Terry, there was some real fans real unhappy with him in Orlando for awhile. I hope they have seen the light because he sure has them on the right track.
