http://cfn.scout.com/2/713413.html I definitely agree with Florida's. Others: Michigan - 1997 Rose Bowl Ohio St - 2003 Fiesta
That's a good article Dave, I agree with the three you mention. But I also have a lot of fondness for the 97 Sugar Bowl where we beat FSU 52-20. Tennessee against FSU, I really remember that game. We could have had a rematch with Tennessee for the NC but lost to FSU. FSU was a pretty solid favorite and I was cheering loudly at home for the VOLs who took it to FSU. Oklahoma? Such a storied background and so many big games, the one they picked is as good as any. I'm not going to list them one by one, I think it's a very interesting list and nothing to criticize. Thanks
I too was pulling for Tenn in that Fiesta Bowl match-up and I agree that was their best Bowl moment. Also agree that Ga beating PennSt for the NC n '81 was it for the Dawgs best. For a non-NC Florida bowl moment it is hard to beat that 14-13 W over SEC champ Tenn in Jax. I was 14 at the time and in attendance and my love for the Gators was solidified that day when Jack Youngblood led a goal line stand to hold off the Vols.
FWIW <r>Georgia beat Notre Dame for the NC in the Sugar Bowl, not Penn State<br/> <br/> from the article you posted<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE></r>
There are several noticeable errors in the piece. They did a very thorough job of researching each team's bowl background, but they must have published the article when the editing dept. had the day off. Next to the inexcusable 1981 Sugar Bowl mistake, the most obvious error is in the description of New Mexico vs. Nevada. At the end they refer to NM playing San Jose State in the bowl game.
My bad....I had the year right but when I typed in the opponent I must have remembered the '83 Ga-PennSt Sugar Bowl in which PSU won the NC.
Not your fault, MCG. You took the info from the article which you believed to be fact. In the end, it really doesn't matter historically who the opponent was. Georgia won the game and the NC. What matters is that the authors of the article did not check the historic details.
