To make it in this thread it has to have been a signing day event...good or bad. For me as a Texas fan, it had to be Ryan Perrallaux ditching us for LSU on signing day. He was going to be the next Vince Young. Of course in the end it was a blessing in disguise. Probably the best was the switch of Chris Simms to Texas, he was the #1 overall recruit in the country that year. Probably the only #1 recruit Texas ever signed. Of course we all know how that worked out. For me as an Irish fan, the list is longer. Best: Ron Powlus, Carlyle Holiday, both were signing day decisions. Highly recruited. Powlus was the #1 over all recruit in the country and while most assumed he would be Irish, he didn't commit till signing day. Carlyle Holiday wasn't as highly rated but he was a big battle between Neb and ND, Bob Davie was going to the Power Option supposedly and Holiday was supposed to be a good fit for the Neb Option game that Davie wanted to emulate, Davie and Mattison beat out Turner Gill and Uncle Frankie for Holiday. He was a good kid but didn't really have a good college career. Had his moments but overall the funny thing was he was terrible at the option. Classic case of people assuming that because he was black he would be the next Tommy Frazier. He was also injury prone. Worst: C. J. Leake, Lo Booker, and Dennis Johnson. C.J. and his family just flat out lied to Bob Davie and with a purpose in mind. He was widely speculated to be a silent Irish commit and everybody expected him to annoucne for the Irish on signing day. Dennis Johnson aka DJ was a DT who we hoped would go for the Irish on signing day and many thought he would, instead Kentucky hired his Dad as a coach and he went with Kentucky. Lo Booker was another sucker punch, he was headed to the stand to make his announcement, he had already told Tyrone he was comming to ND, but he got a cell phone call from Bobby Bowden and he walked up to the podium and annoucnced for FSU. Shocked everybody.
