On the ABC Sunday 6pm news, the path shown for Beryl runs straight through Houston. Terry, I hope you’re hunkered down.
As Scott noted wind and rain! Have lost power, but cell service is still good. Looks like Peanut butter and jelly today!
Stay safe and keep us posted! Not looking forward to this storm season, prob gonna finally bite the bullet and spring for a whole house generator. The older I get the better it looks. I've got one now that I can plug into a few of the house circuits at a time which helps in a pinch, but getting the old gennie cranked up ain't quite as easy as it used to be!
A lot of tree debris in my area, no flooding. No power still and no cell service. So it's no fun, no TV, no internet, etc. I drove about 4 miles north of my house looking for what was open, which wasn't much. I noticed that the traffic lights were working, so I pulled into a parking lot and have internet on my phone. Couldn't make a call though, weird. Also my texts weren't going out either. I fear I may be in for longer power situation than I had hoped
Glad you are OK and the home is unscathed but yikes re no power with 90 degree temps throughout the week. Hope the power comes back on soon!
Terry, I've been where you are a few times in the distant past following damaging storms. The longest was around a week, and it was pre-technology, so there wasn't the frustration in that regard that you're experiencing. It definitely was like living in pioneer days, but pioneers didn't have refrigeraors and freezers they had to empty because of spoilage. There are some things I don't recall, like how much the loss of A/C affected us. Bottom line: We survived it, and you will too. Hang in there, my friend.
Still no power. Power company is admitting they didn't stage crews so rather than being here and working they are on their way. My sister who lives about 20 miles south of me has power, but her son/wife and 3 young kids are camping out there, so might go to Austin.
Oh and I am back in the grocery store parking lot where the cell allows internet but still no calls. I don't understand that.
I'm in Austin now, AC, Food, TV, Internet!! Also brought my clubs so I am planing of braving the heat a getting in a few rounds.
Latest seems to indicate that my neighborhood will be another week without power, I am grateful for my relatives and their hospitality, but I am eager to get back normal!
Even when you (rhetorical) take a trip by choice and enjoy it, there's nothing like returning home and to your own bed. Good luck over the next week and month.
Terry, you need to invest in a whole-home generator. I had a hook up installed in my new home when I was building it. Now, I can go almost 30 days without power.
I'll bet you can't even get an appointment for a Generac guy to come to your house and give you a quote till like October!! They are probably going to be working 24-7 to take care of all the business coming their way!!
I actually went a different route. Since I have a 500 gallon propane tank for heat, and appliances, I had them put me an outlet near my electrical box, and also put a bypass plug there. I bought a "portable" 13000w gen that will power the house, but is not always connected like a Generac. My system isn't quite as convenient as a permanent system, but it was easy to acquire for a lot less money.
Back home and power has been restored. The CenterPoint map said I was going to have power by Wed, neighbor told me it came on yesterday afternoon. Anyway, threw out everything in the fridge and it wasn't too bad, some vinegar/water clean up should be all it needs. Glad to be home.
