AP has UF #2 and so does the Harris below. 1 Alabama (108) 11-0 2839 2 Florida (3) 10-1 2644 Coaches have Ok at #2 with UF right on their heels at #3 and close in points. All this after UF played the Citadel... What would it be if UF were to beat FSU and Bama back-to-back....? Win and the Gators are in....plain and simple... 8)
Hard to figure how Texas loses to Tex Tech... beats Ok.....and Ok has them shut out of the Big 12 title game. Very damaging loss to TT for the Horns.
I believe that because of the Computer polls that Texas is still ahead of Oklahoma in the BCS and it is not so simple for Florida. Here's the way the BCS is likely to be. Alabama Texas Oklahoma Florida USC If the Gators win out and Texas wins it will be a tight finish between Florida and Oklahoma for the last spot.
Why? Texas has had a great season. They were this close to pulling it out at Lubbock. They will go to a BCS bowl game. They were not expected to be this good when he year started. The team has been exciting and played hard and has no regrets, they weren't screwed by the refs, they were beat fair and square. A freshman DB dropped a sure INT that would have salted away the game, Crabtree makes a great grab and eludes two Texas DB's for the TD. It was a war and instant ESPN Classic, just like the great win over OU on a neutral field. OU, who I despise, still has a road game vs Ok. State a pretty good team. OU expended a tremendous amount of emotion last night, will they be able to get up again? Ok State on the other hand was sitting at home resting up for the Sooners. OU should beat them, no doubt, but Ok State is a good enough team that if the Sooners come out a little flat that they could lose and it's happened to OU a couple of times in the Bob Stoops era. It ain't over till it's over!!
I think that the Gators have a better chance of passing Oklahoma than Texas so I kind of like Texas being in 2nd place. It would help things a lot of Okie State could win.
No matter what you have to beat Bama or you are going to the Sugar Bowl. Now way Texas or any 2nd B12 team sneaks in ahead of Bama/UF winner. The disasterous senarios would be both UF and Bama losing their final games of the season. Then the SECCG becomes irrelevant and USC will play the B12 Champion unless it's Missouri in which case Penn State probably sneaks in to the game vs USC. But we all know that could never happen!!
Bill....the Gators only have to pass one of those two teams. TT is gone and Bama will be gone if UF still has a case at the end. It will be the two conference champs in the final BCS ranking....the SEC and the Big 12 with the other Big 12 contender hanging just behind. I do expect UF to be 4th today but I am now feeling confident after seeing the Harris poll put the Gators at #2 already even before the FSU game. Time after time....year upon year we get all sorts of grief over the Gator's schedule but isn't it funny that Florida is almost always in the driver's seat when this kind of BCS scenario unfolds. 8)
Terry, I agree with you. Alabama has already won 2 or 3 more games than most thought we would win. The only difference is we have to beat Auburn to make this year a success. Now I am not conceding the SECCG at all. I think our defense has the strength to keep Florida in check. Turnovers will make the difference. Having said that, with a win over Auburn, and playing for the SECC and possibly the NC, this season will be a present we didn't expect to get until next year or the year after.
Exactly the order I said in the 4th post. I think we win out and it works but it's not a lock. Amazing that the computer polls jump Texas from 4th to 2nd. So the two teams that have a lock right now if they win out are Alabama and Texas.
Well that is certainly a fair ranking based on the on the field results IMHO. This puts Texas in the drivers seat, a big win over the Aggies even with a big win by OU over OK State, should keep us in the #2 slot. I did not expect this to be the way it turned out. Terry
Down year for the SEC in terms of depth for sure. Obviously all the non-SEC fans are relishing in that fact. Enjoy it while it lasts, Big 12 fans, the SEC will be back. Wait! What am I talking about? I still think the SEC will be hoisting a 3rd straight Crystal Ball in January. But, as they say, that's why they play the games....
Not to worry Bill. The Harris and Coaches poll have UF #2 and #3 respectively and that's before FSU. If UF goes 2-0 and Bama is still #1 when they play UF will be #1 in all forms of polls with a W and an SEC crown.
I'm just a fan of playing the games. There is great football played in the SEC every year, just as there is in conferences all across America. I'm just sick and tired of watching some teams from certain conferences earn their way while others seemingly glide by on reputation and hype.. It's a shame, especially when those teams don't need that help. It hurts the game overall. That's what drives me nuts. That's what you guys (at least some of you) don't see. The fact that we have "BCS and nonBCS" conferences in the bowl subdivision gnaws at me like I can't tell you. Mix in the hype and discrimination that comes with the media darlings of the BCS conferences.... and hopefully you can see my objections to this.
I am just crossing my fingers and hoping that Oregon State beats Oregon so that some school from another conference has to deal with a pissed off, motivated USC in a bowl game.
Unlike Corey the position of conferences like Mtn West, C-USA, WAC, Big South, whoever... doesn't bother me at all. The schools in the BCS conferences play tougher schedules than those team in most years, sure there are times that those conferences are down a little and maybe they don't, but I would propose that Boise State as a member of the B12 would do little better than Iowa State. Or as a member of the B10 would do little better than Indiana or Minn, or as members of the SEC would be more like Miss State. So I think the current rules for them, guaranteed bid if they finish in the top 8, eligible for at-large if they finish in the top 12, are more than fair.
