I haven't seen anything that yet around here. I know Tuberville met with the AD and nothing definitive came out of the meeting except that they will meet again. ????
KP, They are meeting again today, which tells me that someone at Auburn: -Believes Tommy can win but big changes are needed or -They are afraid of the unknown and would like to hold onto him, but bully him to make the real changes that he's refused to make for years.
http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2008/12/tommy_tuberville_is_out_as_aub.html I posted too soon maybe they were playing rock, paper, scissors to determine the buyout?
Wonder where he'll land and conversely who will they get to counter Saban at Alabma? I wonder if they have the $$$$ to go out and get a big name. Or will they go for one of the hot coordinators? I wonder if Will Muschamp has signed his contract at UT?
Corey, Your first sources were pretty damned good. It will be interesting to see who they get. I guess Leach is somewhat interested, I've heard Petrino mentioned. I heard Spurrier mentioned as well. Croom is available. How about Willingham? I personally think they pulled the trigger a little quickly. It could be that Tuberville refused to make changes to his staff.....nah that couldn't be it.
Bobda, LOL it took me a full 30 minutes after seeing that to come back and post. Well done sir. KP, Nobody ever listens to me. I'm just a jackass yankee I have no idea who they will go after. There are lots of names out there. I don't see this being an "A list" coach if a replacement is named before Jan 1st. I guess anything is possible, but I don't see it.
Everyone seems to be thinking Leach is first choice. TT is trying to sweeten the pot I think. For some reason I don't think Leach would be a fit down there.
Leach isn't a fit ANYWHERE. They guy has interviewed before, and he has been nixed at that point each time. I've heard over and over that he's "out there" and the interview always blows it. However... at this point you have to figure his results will get him a job in spite of his personality. He also interviewed at Washington. I think that would be an interesting gig for him. He'd have no trouble finding willing QBs, and WRs. Also, with the PAC a little down right now it would be an easier road up the ladder than through the SEC.
Norm Chow must be another Leach. The guy has been nothing but gold as an OCoord where ever he is, but he can't buy a head coaching gig. Leach at least has a head coaching gig, but to me he's a big risk where ever the job requires recruiting with the big boys. I don't see Auburn being happy taking C-USA types and having big scoring offenses that go most 8 or 9 wins, and only if the schedule contains 3 1AA teams. This year for Leach is an anomaly.
When you look at Tub's career, he was a 4+ loss guy for the majority of his career at Auburn. In fact, he lost 4 or more in 7 of his 10 seasons. In fact, he lost 3 or more in 8 of his 10 seasons. I think they can leave with 3 or 4 losses at Auburn, I really do. It is the 5-7 that was just too much. And let's also be above board here... Tubesteak's practices had to catch up to him at some point in time. His hiring practices is good for 3 to 5 year runs, but it can't sustain a program. In the end, that is what did him in. Tubesteak was dead the moment the offense went backward after the firing of Franklin.
Final Buyout number is 5.1 million, which since he resigned they didn't have to pay him, but they did anyway. I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder, who, who, wrote the Book of Love...or what TT has on them?
