To no one's surprise Chizik was fired after a a losing season and being 0 - 8 in the SEC and losing their last game to Alabama 49-0. This comes only two years after they wee 14-0 and National Champs. Chizik Fired Chizik Fired 2
Just like Larry Coker, win the title and a couple of years later gone.... I don't know what happened but it was odd that a guy who was awful at Iowa State got the job in the first place, even given he was a pretty good DCoord with a NC ring from 2005. But still nada as a HC on his own. Then he mysteriously gets Cam Newton and is a 1 year wonder and then Cam leaves town. Now they dodged the Cam Newton thing because the NCAA has no rule against parents taknig bribes. But now they are elbow deep in more stuff. I wonder who will take that job with the NCAA mess hanging over them. They have a top 10 recruiting class so far, I wonder what will happen there?
I'm surprised by the timing. In a cash strapped state, they could have saved themselves a lot of money by waiting one more month for the NCAA to hand over that letter of investigation so they could have fired him with cause.
Don, It really is. I know my Dad thinks they probably back channeled a deal with lawyers over this, but I've been here long enough to know better. My Dad is thinking with his head. That's logical. That's not how Auburn will operate. They'll pay him and that staff the buyout and then do one of 2 things: 1. Continue to pay him the buyout until they are served with papers by the NCAA, then discontinue the payments daring the Chiz to sue them or 2. Wait until they are served the papers and begin legal proceedings that will force the Chiz to pay the money back and discontinue further payments. Their actions now admit they are breaking contract and letting him go without cause.. This state, specifically in terms of education and state employee dollars, is cash strapped... watching them light 10 million dollars on fire isn't sitting well with anyone here. We all know the investigation is coming, they can start a coaching search while the Chiz sits for the next month or so. They aren't bowl bound so they'll not be missing any practice time. It's just not a smart business move.
