I wondered if we'd see Stu's favorite scene when Lefty wins....and of course we did!! Lefty looked positively svelte this weekend. And I was glad to see he'd not changed character when up by 4 strokes on the 18th tee box he put his tee shot out over the water and drew it back into an ideal spot in the fairway. Not the safest play, but when has Lefty ever played it safe!!
Actually, I don't mind the hugs or the fact that the touching scene is shown... What made me want to hurl was the camera guys and announcers setting it up..."hold on kids, Daddy will be walking right there and when we tell you, go running up and give him a big kiss and hug!" :?
Staged or not, (which I don't think it is,....wouldn't we all like to be a dad like Phil) it's a hell of a lot better scene from a sports figure than say....Canseco, Tyson, Carmello Anthony, A.I., # 52 from the Ravens, so forth and so on. It's actually enjoyable to see someone that is a class act, loves his wife and kids, makes good money, doesn't sell cocaine, doesn't hang out at nightclubs with his hood buddies, doesn't have weapons charges against him, doesn't have multiple piercings or prison tattoos.......you could go on and on AJ.... :x
It's all good as far as I'm concerned.....glad to see Lefty back on his game and in the picture. I would however like to see him not go in the tank in the Ryder Cup....just once.
Taylor Woods, as I like to call him, is going through some drastic swing changes....stay tuned for future news. BTW, coming to a Arizona Jr. circuit near you in 2007!!!!
Hey I'll bet ole Lance what's his name is breathing a sigh of relief that he won't have to face Taylor this year!!
I just did Gippa....Balboa park, next to the San Diego park. A great muny were Craig Stadler has his city champ trophy's on display. Reasonable cost also.
I played Balboa Park several times in my Navy days, but played the Admiral Kidd Courses more...price was right!! Nothing was better than the monthly base golf tournament at the Admiral Kidd, they flighted you after your round so everybody got a prize, and they had beer coolers on every cart. The Chief that ran that tournament was a prince!!
Here's a little bit about O'Hungry's Gipper!! O'Hungry's O'Hungry's dishes up equal parts kitsch and tasty bar food. Address O'Hungry's 2547 San Diego Avenue San Diego, CA 92110 (619) 298-0133 The seafaring theme is the first thing you notice. A drawing of an old-fashioned ship graces the menu's cover, curvy lady figureheads and a ship's steering wheel hang on the wall and wooden pier posts border the dining area. It's kitschy and fun, a sharp contrast to the prevailing Mexican theme of Old Town.
One of O'Hungry's biggest draws is its soup and salad bar. A single helping of soup is $2.99 or all you can eat for $5.49. A single plate of salad runs $3.49 or unlimited trips for $5.49. We're not talking gourmet here, but it's hearty and the price is right.
O'Hungry's offers a number of sandwiches for $5.95, from the Widow Maker (roast beef and cheddar cheese) to the Captain Bistro (a BLT). Burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and thick chili are also available. The dinner menu is short and to the point; $8.95 for BBQ spare ribs, baked chicken, grilled mahi-mahi, carne asada, or grilled sirloin and three pasta dishes under $8.
What O'Hungry's is really famous for is its beers by the yard. For $8.50, a waitress will bring you three feet of domestic beer ($9.50 for imported) served in a specially-designed glass that sits in a wooden stand on the floor. The house rule is you break, you buy, so drink carefully. The appetizer list (offered daily after 3 p.m., or noon Monday through Sunday) is extensive and classic -- fried and greasy is the name of the game -- so order up, settle back and enjoy a thoroughly non-Old Town experience.
I've tried that yard of brew serving before. After you get about halfway done it starts to get real interesting. You put the glass to your lips and then lift the bottom. The beer begins to resemble a golden tsunami as it rushes down the narrow stam towards you. Before you know it you have beer rolling down both cheeks and dripping on the floor. It's a waste of damn fine beer. Do I mention your name AJ or swear I never met ya?
Classic Mickelson yesterday...leads every minute of the tournament until 18 on Day 4. Then loses the playoff. Just before the meltdown...
I was thinking as the annoucners were talking about his new swing with the driver, and how he's using the meltdown at Winged Foot as motivation. Last weekend when he was on #18, he had a 4 stroke lead, calm and cool. This week standing on the tee box at 18 he had Charles Howell III breathing down his neck and some pressure, so he rips his drive into the rough, and ends up in a tie. Then on every hole in that playoff he screwed his tee shot. Same ole' Phil!!
