They just beat LSU to wrap up the season. They were competitive with most everyone except for Alabama, Texas and Florida... certainly no shame in that.

Petrino runs a system that relies heavily on a talented QB, and he plowed thru this season with Dick at QB (literally and figuratively). Next year he gains Ryan Mallett (who transferred from Michigan with the hiring of Dick Rod). I think some folks just may want to keep an eye on the Hogs next season..

on a side note: How 'bout that pre-season national title contender in LSU?

Sounds like some Gator fans also.

Good thing that the average fan of a school isn't the same as the average internet fan, especially after a loss.

I think LSU has some serious questions to answer on the defensive side of the ball. The southern media talking heads were talking about 2 things Wednesday before I left for the holiday...

    1. Kiffin to Tennessee
    2. DickRod to Clemson, Pumpkinhead Miles to Michigan. LSU implodes.

There a couple of things brewing here, I think. One: There are a lot of folks that think Miles won the NC with Saban's players. He could have but Miles has recruited pretty well himself. This year LSU got caught with their qb's down. Two: There is a price to pay for all of those risky decisions Miles makes. There is a reason that coaches punt on fourth down. The down side if you don't make it is not worth the upside if you do make it. You are only "a riverboat gambler" if the gamble works. If the gamble doesn't work you are in the hotseat. Three: When LSU lost there 1st string qb (and Perilloux) Miles didn't scale back his game plan. He asked these young guys to make the same decisions and throws that his experienced qb's made, and they weren't ready for that. And to top it off the LSU defense was not good enough to cover the offensive troubles.
They are crazy if they let Miles go now. I don't think they will but I have been wrong about these things before. Where is Mike Shula by the way?

It surprises me how often fans will turn on a coach. Go to boards of any team after any loss, and there's a very good chance someone will want the coach fired.

Mike Shula is a QB coach of the Jaguars, and although I haven't found many fellow Bama fans that will agree with me, I thought he was a very good coach. Obviously, Coach Saban is doing a great job with Bama right now, and we were very lucky to get him. I'm just one of those few that liked Shula and like Saban.

Any comparisons between LSU and Notre Dame on the field are ridiculous. They may have similar records but they sure don't look the same.

    Bryan,
I agree with you. Alabama actually had good teams the last 2 years and the bounces went the wrong way late in the season. This year we had more (deeper) talent on the DL and the bounces went our way. We will get deeper in talent from here on out as we get farther away from the NCAA sanctions. I liked Shula and while I can't argue with the results, I am still not sure about Saban. :?
