Yeah I know this is not a politically correct question but I've gotten tired of pleasing those with blinders on, I ordered a 5.7x28 semi auto pistol over the holidays and wondered if anyone has experience in this caliber??? Or in US standards a .224 caliber...

This is more a collection piece than anything as fellow citizens have worked to outlaw the caliber but as a long time purveyor of firearms it was worth the extraordinary price....

I'm curious, Ralph. I don't much (translation: anything) about weapon specs. What is it about .224 caiber that makes people want to outlaw it?

That's a bit of an obscure caliber... sorry I'm not familiar with it.

Out of curiosity I looked up the ammo.
Cabelas has it... but it goes $29 a box!
I guess that is a looker and not a shooter! (or it would be for me!).

If you have a pic, I'd love to see it.

It was originally designed to supersede the 9mm by NATO in 94 but it ran into a political wall ingrained with most items theses days...The caliber was first introduced in a special forces rifle and then a pistol that is able to shoot he same round. In 2004 it was introduced to the public but with a diminished round not capable of shooting thru bullet proof vest. To this day the ammo used by military's around the world is not available but it still makes a great accurate caliber.

It honestly is not much more than a 22 magnum caliber but it is center fire and not rim fire which makes it impervious to flaws as far as hanging up in the chamber.

The political aspect is the Brady commission tried to outlaw it to the public saying it was a cop killer, the truth is it has never been used to kill a law enforcement officer. The pistol I purchased has the ability to shoot accurately to 100 yards which is uncommon with other pistols...

The firearm weighs 20 oz when loaded and is ultra light to carry and will probably become a collectable...

Interesting. Accurate to 100 yards is pretty darned accurate. Thanks for the background info.

    Cool!
I read a little about it.
Was meant to have better penetration than a 9mm, but release energy more effectively than a 5.56 rifle round.
