If your team gets an unexpected boost today, throw it in here so we can all say "Which family member now works for your U?"
Well not for my teams. Obviously Michigan must have offered James Mouton a new Ford Explorer since he didn't sign with Texas. We don't do that sort of thing in Austin! But there are some interesting differences in the rankings now. USC has zoomed up and is pretty much #2 in all the services, except ESPN which has them at #1. Fla is #1, but you would have to say that USC signed the best class in the country, 12 top 100 players. But Rivals has FSU #3 and Scout doesn't even have them in the top 10. Irish slipped to #8 in Rivals and #5 in Scout. I didn't scroll far enough down the list to pick up the Ag's! Terry

The Gators got an unexpected surprise with Patrick Robinson a DB from Miami. He had commited to us just a week or so ago then signed with FSU today without telling our coaches he changed his mind. Also on the somewhat negative side we thought we were going to get CJ Spiller the top ranked and five star running back from Florida. He commited to Clemson. Early on a lot of people thought he was a lock to FSU. We did get Mon Williams Running back from Texas, but even though it was official it was not a surprise. All in all the Gators are very happy, 27 commits and possibly the top ranked recruiting class. Gator Bill
Buckeyes sign 20 and are heavy on the defensive side of the ball, not unusual in that we lost a ton of players on defense. Speed and needs seem to set the tone for recruiting. Offense will be ahead of the defense come September. Don

Alabama filled its need <t>Our defense took a graduation hit so we did well at LB and DB and we really stocked up on the OL. I am extremely happy, mildly concerned that we did't take more DL but OL depth was really helped today.</t>
Tom, Gerald Williams from Boyd Anderson High School in Ft. Lauderdale was a recruit from last year. I was pretty sure he was in school. Gator Bill
Bill, The only one that was already in school was: Signed and Currently Enrolled - Jan. 2006 (1) Walter Fisher - DE, 6-3, 265 Nashville (Hillsboro/Coffeyville [Kan.] CC)
Thanks Tom, I know Williams signed with you last year and I thought he had qualified and was there last season. I guess he had to get a qualifiying score or something. He's a good player and from my Kid's High School in Ft. Lauderdale. There was a time a year ago when he was commited to Florida while Zook was there. Gator Bill
Here's an interesting breakdown of who went where in the Rivals 250. I got this from a ND Poster. A few observations: -For unknown reasons, there arre 249 players in the rivals 250. -The SEC signed nearly 32% of them. -Notre Dame signed two more than the entire Big East. -UM, PSU, and OSU signed 34, while the rest of the Big Ten signed only four. -The non-BCS schools didn't sign any. -Among major programs, the worst showings were Nebraska (1), and Tennessee (3), and Miami (7) -Some of the better showings among the non-powerhouses were Clemson and California with seven each, and Oklahoma State and Pittsburgh with five each. -Of those that didn't sign any of the rivals 250, the ones that stick out are Oregon, Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan State, Colorado, and West Virginia. The raw data: SEC (79) 19 Florida 13 Georgia 13 Auburn 11 LSU 9 Alabama 3 Tennessee 3 Ole Miss 3 Arkansas 3 South Carolina 1 Mississippi State 1 Kentucky 0 Vanderbilt ACC (40) 14 Florida State 7 Miami-FL 7 Clemson 3 Maryland 2 Virginia Tech 2 Virginia 2 North Carolina 1 Georgia Tech 1 Duke 1 Boston College 0 Wake Forest 0 NC State Pac-10 (38 ) 16 Southern Cal 7 California 5 UCLA 4 Arizona 3 Arizona State 2 Washington 1 Oregon State 0 Wash. Very interesting, Terry. FWIW, I read in our local paper that Purdue has signed 7 JC players out of 27 total. For anyone interested (Stu?), here is an in-depth article describing Purdue's recruiting efforts and results: http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/sports/13772568.htm
This is from a Gator Board, don't know which one. The interesting thing I see from both of these is that the PAC10 in terms of the 200 or so players, outside of USC only beat out the Big East. In this ranking 15 of the 24 top 220 who went to the PAC10 went to USC. I would say USC is set to dominate the PAC10 like nobody has a conference since Neb dominated the Big 8. Below are final composite rankings based on the Scout100, ESPN150, Rivals100, CFN150 and Lemming100. The basic procedure for ranking players was proposed by xxEHxx on this board. Points are assigned based on ranking and fewer points reflects a higher ranking. The key question is how you handle recruits who are not ranked by one or more services. I chose to assign each unranked recruit 175 points. This creates some separation between ranked and unranked players and emphasizes consensus picks. I critically evaluated dozens of permutations and my final system varies little from what xxEHxx proposed: 1, Percy, Harvin, WR, Florida 2, Andre, Smith, OL, Alabama 3, Sergio, Kindle, LB, Texas 4, SoCal Prep Sports ranked the final Pac10 this way: 1. USC 2. Arizona 3. UCLA Oregon finished a miserable dead last... Mississippi did a great job out here. They took Valencia's QB who threw for about nine kazillion yds and TDs in his career and they got more than just Cornell out of Bishop Amat. Ed Orgeron knows where everything is out here and he's taking advantage of that knowledge... I still like Tyler Lyons, the QB from Hart who signed with Arizona. This was Zona's best class in years. They're on the way back... .................JO'Co
Re: Larry Grant "Grant, a native or Norcross, Ga., played two seasons at CCSF and was ticketed to enroll at Florida this spring. But an admissions snafu there led him to re-open his college choice. He took visits to Ohio State and Oregon before settling on OSU. He will enroll at OSU for spring quarter and participate in spring drills." This kind of thing bothers the crap out of me. The NCAA needs to get an across the board admissions standard.
