I really like this article and agree with Meyer's philosophy about changing people not eleminating them. Changing Not Eleminating People
I'm not sure but did that article say that Meyer has banned UF players from owing guns? Did he do that after the UF kid fired his weapon in the street or did he establish that from day 1? What's the punishment for being caught with a weapon? I've wonder also how Randy Shannon is going to enforce that rule, is he going to do room checks or just react after one is found?
Very nice story, Bill. I certainly respect Meyer as a coach for what he's accomplished, but after reading that article I've gained immense respect for him as a man, aside from his coaching accomplishments.
I believe the "ban" went into place last summer when we had the Dee Webb - Ken Tookes misfire incident. AFA Univ of Florida is concerned, there's been a "no guns on campus" for many, many years. In 1997 olineman Zac Zendalis served a 2-game suspension for having a BB gun in his dorm and the suspension came from the Student Judicial Affairs Committee, not Spurrier.
Terry, I believe Gaterz has things correct and I don't think that Meyer has the same policy as Shannon does and you are right that would be a though one to follow to the letter. I am not even sure that the young man involved is done for good at UF, but he has hurt his career for sure.
