Don't know if you guys saw this; Dick Schafrath passed away...he was a great left tackle for the Cleveland Browns and blasted all those holes for Jim Brown.

Not (I guess) a national legend but he is a local legend. Grew up a couple of counties over but lived in our county for most of his later years. Played for Woody Hayes. Was a State Senator. Wrestled a bear...canoed across Lake Erie...was friends with Elvis...ran a canoe livery near here on the Mohican River.

And was just a regular guy. Full of funny stories about his early career and childhood. Only started playing high school football so he could get a shower.

Cleveland Browns, Ohio State star, Dick Schafrath dies

There's a better article in Cleveland Plain Dealer but it seems to be subscriber only.

Great story, Stu. I don't remember him but really enjoyed reading that article. That photo of him at Ohio State with a young-looking Woody Hayes is great. I always think of Woody as an older guy with glasses.

I saw news reports on his passing when we were in Green Bay, they pay attention to past football greats.
