I'm beginning to think that baseball's All-Star game is as dead as old Marley's ghost. In the American League, Yankee fans voted in three starters, but hey: they're the Yankees. In the National League, the gay pride paraders in San Fransissy stuffed the ballot box and voted in three starters too: Kung Fu Panda, Melky Cabrera, and Buster Posey. Now that Matt Cain has been named the starting pitcher, that means that four of the NL's 9 starting players will be from the Giants. Wowza. If they're so good, how come they're in 2nd place behind the......drum roll......Dodgers? BTW- Matt Kemp will participate in the Home Run Derby......despite being on the disabled list and only playing in 51 of the Dodgers first 82 games...
Curtis Granderson is starting for the AL while Austin Jackson isn't on the roster. Granderson is hitting .248 and Jackson is second in the AL at .332. Now in his third year he's becomming a very productive lead off man and has been error-less in the field.
 Cano is not better than those young Angels outfielders. Have you seen Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout? The Angels have better outfielders on their bench than most teams have on the field... He's also not better than Matt Kemp... He may be better than Kung Fu Panda...
 One thing I did agree with this year was the selection of the starting pitchers: Verlander and Cain. Justin Verlander has been the best pitcher in the American League for some time now. Former phenom Matt Cain has been pitching well in the National League since he was 19 and his career is just starting to take off at age 27. Both of them throw hard; have control of a vast array of weapons; and know how to pitch. When AJ and I were at Angels Stadium, Cain was the pitcher for the visitors and he did very well. Trumbo and Trout gave him all kinds of problems, but he didn't panic and he shut down Pujols, Hunter and the rest to win easily. I really like these two pitchers.
Clever and appropriate comment. I agree. His Bermanisms (player nicknames) once were fresh and entertaining. IMO, he's stayed too long at the dance in terms of trying to be a play-by-play commentator or the emcee of an event like the HR Derby. I normally don't get into criticizing sports event commentators, but last night I found his constant back, back, backisms and his gravelly voice tone especially annoying.
Are these Royals fans a bunch of dicks or what? They remind one of the crowd at Monday Night Raw. That scene at the HR derby last night was disgraceful complete with the flyover with a derogatory banner regarding Cano. They picked up where they left off tonight booing him again and cheering when he made an out. I guess these goobers forgot that for one night he is playing FOR them. And I thought Philly fans were bushers!
re: Berman I stopped being a fan of his years ago when he sneered and made fun of Notre Dame on one of his shows where they were supposed to be analyzing the NFL draft. He sucks and I watch him as little as possible. re: Cano Nope. He's not even as good as Kung Fu Panda neither. They ran a video piece on what a wonderful smile he had...then Melky Cabrera wiped that smile off his face in grand style. Melky parked one, then as he rounded 2nd base, said something and held out his hand with a wide grin. Cano "The Guy Who Always Smiles" ignored his hand and gave his former teammate the Easter Island stare as he watched him slowly tour the bases in his orange shoes; Circus Boy smile; and triumphal attitude. As every baseball player knows: there are smiles and then there are smiles... re: Mike Trout I hope all you home gamers were watching. What you saw was exactly what AJ and I saw. Trout isn't just another player. This is Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle. He gets a hit, then bam! He steals 2nd base on the 2nd pitch. He's leading the American League in steals and he wasn't even brought up from the minors until May. He's also leading the league in batting average and he has power... re: Bryce Harper Way to wear gold shoes, then lose a can of corn in the lights. Welcome to The Show kid! re: Chipper Jones Chipper laughed at Ian Kinsler's lack of effort and I booed at the TV screen. You know it's time to retire when they let you get a hit. Kinsler should be ashamed of himself. His lack of effort to allow the old man one last All-Star hit was worthy of the Black Sox. Play hard or go home...
I'm surprised you buy into the media circus that the AS game has become. Cabrera and Cano were best friends on the Yankees. I suspect they still are. Oh, Cano is the t best second baseman in the game... did I mention that? from the NY Daily News: The 27-year-old Cabrera was once thought by many in the Yankee organization to be the next home-grown star who would wear the pinstripes for years. The Bombers signed him in 2001 and Cabrera made his major league debut in 2005 at the age of 20, had a highlight-reel catch of a Manny Ramirez drive a year later and, according to former teammate Alex Rodriguex, was "an integral part of the '09 World Series team." But the good times ended after that title-winning season. According to Yankee hitting coach Kevin Long - who coached Cabrera in the Bombers' farm system and with the major league club - Cabrera may have partied too much during his Yankee days, and Long adds that "towards the end (of Cabrera's Yankee stint), he got out of shape, kind of lost his focus a little bit." Speculation swirled that Cabrera was negatively affecting another budding star, second baseman Robinson Cano, who was and still is one of Cabrera's best friends. At age 20 I will refrain from comparing him to Mantle. Check back with me in say, 2018.
More on Cano's fun All-Star break..... from Espn.com: Cano told reporters Tuesday night that fans yelled at his family members, including his mother, when they left their seats to go to the restroom during the Derby. He declined to be more specific but said he believed the fans went too far. "This is a game," Cano said. "We're All-Stars. And if I get booed, I don't really care. But when they start with your family, that's over the line. "Thank God they didn't do anything more (than yell). You don't want people to take it too far and do something to your family. It's just a game. You want to have fun with it and go home with some good memories."
Bad fans are bad fans. They took the focus off the festivities and placed it on their own bad behavior. If they never get another AS game it would be too soon for me. And with that **** team of theirs I don't expect to see them anywhere near the post season anytime soon. Back to the "Missing Persons" list.
Heh...heh...I knew I would touch a nerve with my Cano remarks... BTW- When Tommy John was pitching for the Dodgers in a game against the Yankees he was hit by a butcher knife that was thrown at him by a fan sitting behind the dugout. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt, but the attempt at murder was there...
